Small head circumference 20 week scan

Looking for reassurance i suppose. Had my 20 week scan yesterday and was told everything looked normal except head circumference which was below the 5th centile. I therefore need to go back for another scan in 4 weeks. The sonographer told me it's probably nothing to worry about - dates might be slightly wrong etc - but I've worked myself up and am absolutely worried sick. Anyone had similar experiences and everything turned out ok? Thanks

Not me but my friend had the same at her 20 week scan. She was called back to check the head again and all was well. Baby now here and gorgeous, no issues whatsoever.

I hope all is straightforward for you too.

Thanks that's reassuring. I know I just have to wait for the next scan but 4 weeks is a long time!

We had the same with DD1. The consultant at our follow up took one look at my DP and said "I bet her head is just shaped like Daddy's"

Sure enough it's just long and thin (more oval than round). She still has a small head now at 3.

Crossing my fingers for you xx

My first dd had lower percentile head it was borderline for return scan. The rest of body measured at 50%. The lady scanned and rescanned and then said it was ok. Dh and I both have smallish heads.dd came out with smaller head as well but later catched up in the percentile.

Try not to worry. Scans are used to try and pick up on the few babies like my daughter who might be starting to struggle and intervene if they really need it. My daughter was picked up as symeterically small for dates and they assumed I had my dates wrong. [ she was under the 0.4th] Hospital decided to play safe and deliverer her by a planned section at 37 weeks. Turned out she was 42+ . Thankfully as she had been picked up as tiny on earlier scans a neo-natalogist and team was ready and waiting in theatre to help her.
