Booking Appointment

Hi,
Sorry if this isn't the appropriate thread,
I'm currently pregnant with my first, I have my booking appointment with my community midwife in a couple of week, did other expectant mums take their partners/husbands with them? Do they need to go?

No. I didn't. My mw came to the house and I'm pretty sure she was there for around 2 hours. Luckily I work from home so could work around it. It was just a long series of questions, mostly about my health history. There were a couple of questions about partner's health history but not too many. Plus she did bloods and urine sample and gave me my EDD (which is all subject to change at the 12 wk scan anyway). DH came to all the scans with me but not the mw appointments and he didn't feel in any way left out. Later on in pregnancy I had to go to the day assessment unit a couple of times to check baby's movements and he came to those too. Good luck with it all!!

DP came to mine because he was interested (first baby!). It was quite useful having him there for the parents' medical histories bit but I wouldn't say he absolutely needed to be there. MW made him feel very welcome. Apart from that he came to the scans and one more mw appt right near the end of the pregnancy.

Its totally optional I believe. They ask questions about medical histories on both sides going back to parents so might be useful for that. But do what's comfortable for you xx

Nope mine didn't and there are questions he would have to leave the room for about precious involvement with social services and abuse

My DH came to my first appt as it was our first baby and he was interested! All he was asked was his name, age and occupation. He just goes to the scans now and I go to my MW appts on my own.

My husband came to all of mine but he was interested and the midwife commented on it and said how nice it was, that most don't go. He doesn't need to be there but I think he felt more involved. Plus he thought of things I didn't think of asking, and I'm not great at taking in info in settings like that!

Mine came for scans and consultant appointments. Of course he was as interested in my pregnancies but we felt the annual leave/ toil was better to be saved for late pregnancy and when the baby arrived.

Mine didn’t come, and there was no need for him to be there. I found it long and dull so I’m sure he would have done too.

Oh and he was obviously interested in my pregnancy , but that didn’t mean he could cancel trips abroad and important meetings to come and sit with me when he wasn’t needed.

DP really wanted to come but he was working abroad. He asked me so many questions afterwards I remember thinking it would have been easier if he was there! He did come to the 12 week scan a few weeks later and met my lovely midwife then.

It's mostly your medical history, no need for partner. My dh only came to scans and the birth.

It’s a standard medical appointment, DP couldn’t have been more interested and excited in my pregnancy but he wouldn’t usually come to a GP appointment with me.
He went to all the scans and also to one appointment where we went over the Birth Plan. The rest were really just weighing/blood pressure.
