Why so many scans?

We had our 12 week scan last week and were told everything was normal. Just waiting for results of the blood tests. The doctor explained that on the list of risk factors the only question she answer 'yes' to was due to quite bad morning sickness.

Doc said she'd request 5 scans but that usually the hospital doesn't honour her requests so we'd be unlikely to have all of these. We thought this sounded odd but didn't query.

However we've just had 5 scan dates through the post and we're just wondering if this number is normal. From what we've read this sounds like a lot. Great if they're just being thorough but wondering if we've missed something?

Does anyone have any thoughts?

How old are you? It varies from region to region I think, but some places give more scans if mum is over 35.

36 - that may be why then, although wasn't mentioned!

Thank you!
