Anyone waiting for NIPT results?

I had the harmony test last Friday at London fetal medicine centre and go back for results on. Friday 14th.

Im terrified of the results, as I was 42 (only just!) when I conceived. I'm healthy and lucky to have two healthy DC.

Anyone else waiting for the results? It's agonising isn't it? apparently if the results come back early and are high risk they call you before your appointment, so I'm also jumping sky high each time the phone rings.

Yes, I am waiting too. I got the phone call from the hospital on Wednesday telling me I was high risk. Went for NIPT on Thursday. Waiting now to hear back. And I can honestly say this has been the worst week of my life.

Thanks for your reply Zambean and your kind words. I'm sure you've read the many positive outcomes on here from people who were high risk and it worked out ok.

I hope you get the results you want. The waiting is awful.

I've read so many stories, both positive and negative, that I am completely wrung out. And I'm not sure it's really helping. Yes, you can always find people with stories that make you feel better, temporarily. But then there are people with stories that make you feel worse, and at the end of the day, nothing can change the situation. Either my baby has T21 or he doesn't, and I just have to wait. To be honest, I don't know how I'm getting through the days. I think I'm just on autopilot.

I hope you get the all clear! Did you have the NHS screening? What were your odds?

Tbh, I wouldn't have the NHS screening again. I would imagine that at your age, they would come back high risk pretty much whatever the other stats. I'm 34, but I think age played a big factor in my risk being as high as it is (1 in 23).

I totally understand what you're saying about reading the stories and feeling wrung out. I seem to jump between feeling optimistic and dreadful in minutes.
I haven't even had my booking appt yet... I'm 11 weeks today but went privately for harmony testing at ten weeks as my risk is high at 42.
I'll get the results Friday 14 though if I'm high risk they may call sooner.

Speaking logically 1 in 23 is still a low chance.... Other smarter people know how to make it a percentage..... But still low. But it's impossible to think like that when it's you worrying I know. When will you find out?

I had the harmony test at FMC too - I thought the staff were lovely and very very helpful. Also the blood results will need to be combined with the NT scan which can only be done at 12 weeks I thought? Just to manage expectations you might want to check if it's the same process - then you might not get results until next week. Fingers crossed hope it all goes well for you!

Hi bisquick, thanks for posting. You're quite right....they combine the two results buy apparently if the harmony alone is high risk they call if they receive it sooner than two weeks. But then they do a 12 week scan and give the results of their own blood test....this tests for other things in addition. A long nine days ahead.

Just a quick update. I go back to fmc next week, but I called yesterday to see if my harmony results were in.... They are.....good news, I am low risk for the three trisomys!! Won't give the exact numbers til I go bsck in, as they'll also give me the results of the other tests then too. But I'm very relieved so far.

Just to update, I got my results yesterday.

Harmony has thankfully come bsck as less than 1 in 10000 for all three trisomys.

My combined test came back at 1 in 850 for downs and 1 in 1736 for Edwards and patau.

I'm feeling relieved and tired after weeks of worry.

And a bit confused by the difference in the results. One final question..... The doctor told me that less than 1 in 10000 is the best result you can get with harmony, but I'm sure I've read that others get 'less than 1 in 100000 ' etc?

FWIW, my understanding is that NIPT (Harmony etc) is much more accurate than the combined test; people are often recommended to have it if their combined test shows a high risk. We are living in China at the moment and going to a private hospital where all care is delivered by OB-GYN specialists. Our doctor checked NT thickness on our 13-week scan (which was fine) but recommended NIPT test anyway to get a definitive result as I am 37 and automatically high risk. Anxiously awaiting the result now, which will be "two to three weeks" - as they send it to lab in Hong Kong. Fingers crossed for me - this is our first pregnancy.
