NHS doesn't routinely test for group b strep and I had it, and my baby got an infection from it. 20% of women carry this bacteria and although the chances of the baby getting an infection from it, the chance is there 1 in a 1000. The alarming statistic is that 1 in 10 babies will die from this infection and 1 in 5 will be left with permanent problems such as learning difficulties cerebral palsy and more. Please be aware of group B strep and please ask your midwife or obstetrician for the test to prevent your baby becoming ill. The test is just a swab please tell you friends and family and sign the petition on the group b strep website.

my baby nearly died from it, i was tested, they had the results, they knew it was positive not long after the birth, gave me antibiotics, she was plainly ill and i asked for her to have them, they said no. we had a horrible week before someone took some notice (we were in hospital the whole time but they just messed up) and then spent months worrying she had lasting damage from it but somehow she has ended up fine. it is very scary.

nonicknameseemsavailable they made so many mistakes with me. They didn't test me for gbs, they only realised she had gbs infection because she was born distressed and with meconium waters. She was breathing funny so they thought I was due to the meconium but after xrays and bloods realised she had gbs. They never even told me how serious it was or that she could catch it again as I carry it (likelihood being small but it is small anyway still happens) how old is your lo now?
