Referred for fetal cardiac scan

Seriously, first i am told he's got a exomphalos of the tummy, then told this means there's a 30% chance of other deformities or problems so I have to have an amnio. NOW I've just opened a letter saying I've been referred for a fetal cardiac scan AND they will discuss the reasons why at the scan! What!! So I'll just sit here and worry for a couple of weeks shall I?? Are they trying to give me a nervous breakdown??

Sorry to hear that, OP. Can you phone up the hospital and see if they have any dedicated midwives or doctors who can answer some questions in the meantime? Or put you in touch with a counselling service?

Hang in there!
Our hospital has a designated screening midwife. she was great to talk to about this stuff. It would be worth enquiring if there is one available at yours.
Stay strong. These early days seem insurmountable but it'll pass.
Definitely chase up the hospital for an explanation. It's wrong of them to make you wait that long!

Wow, that's pretty bad that no ones called you to explain. I'd get onto the screening midwives at hospital and ask them to go through it all.

Have you had a clear amnio then?

Kitty I haven't had my Amnio yet but this scam is due to be on the same day. I called the hospital and the lovely midwife rang me back and explained that it's standard procedure when there is an anomaly which there is. It's just all so soul destroying... Having to wait to see if you can in fact have your baby is horrid.

Yes, I can imagine that it is standard. We had an alternative care plan involving an mri and a specialist cardiac scan. As it was our amnio came back positive for edwards so plan b was never needed.

I do know what you are going through and the horrendous waiting is awful.

I know it sounds very, very odd but I think the worst bit was the waiting, saying that we knew something was very wrong with out baby.

Our news was heartbreaking, the worst outcome really, but once we knew and could start making decisions and dealing with emotions properly I actually felt a bit better.

I hope with all my heart your results are negative and come back clear x
