Down's pregnancy blood test on trial

This is such encouraging news - hopefully it won't be long before the NHS is able to introduce the blood test so it will be accessible to all, not just those who can afford Harmony privately.

I've given blood samples twice this year for a study lead by Professor Chitty (a different study to that mentioned in the article, I think). Reading the patient information sheet, it seems that current research is also looking at the possibility of using maternal blood testing to detect chromosomal problems other than Downs, some other genetic conditions, and to predict pregnancy complications such as pre-eclampsia and poor fetal growth.

I gave blood for this trial at UCHL after our CVS a few weeks ago. If it stops people having to have the invasive tests then it cant be a bad thing! They wanted DPs blood too but he chickened out! Hmm

Yes, and earlier results will be much easier all round.

I look forward to reading more when the work is published.
