CVS tomorrow

Hi ladies
Had 12 week scan last Thursday with large nuchal measurement. They tried to do CVS last fri but too risky with position of placenta. Trying again tomorrow but I'm not hopeful. They didn't talk to me about nasal bone but in notes said 'unable to examine' which doesn't sound hopeful, sadly. Waiting is just the worst. If they can't do tomorrow it means another week or so until amino.
This is my first pregnancy. I'm 33. I'm finding it hard to function, just feel so down and tearful. I can't work as I am a teacher for very young children with special needs and it just feels too emotional. In my head this pregnsncy is over, I am not optimistic but each day I'm getting bigger, full of hormones and still being sick..... Just don't know what to do :(

I am queen of bursting into tears at the moment so you're not alone! A friend sent me a voucher for a local beauty salon to go and treat myself, was so lovely but nearly caused tears!
Yep the midwife said it might come back today which is annoying as I can't relax thinking there might be a call. I swing from being calm and positive to really upset... All part of the process I guess.

Oh my god that is brilliant news I am sooooooooooooooooo pleased for you. Now that's something to burst in to tears over! You should go out and celebrate tonight, I had a small glass of prosseco over lunch the day we found out and it was the best I'd ever tasted!

What is the detailed scan for??

Congratulations xxxxxxx

massagegirl · 12/12/2012 16:34

The detailed scan is anomaly but midwife just called to put app back to 28th as they want to keep 24th for emergencies. They couldn't examine face in scan, think due to way baby was laying. I hope there's a face... They didn't seem to think anything to worry about. Will also have detailed heart scan around same time as nuchal can indicate problem but guess you don't need that if prob was your bloods?
I think I'll properly celebrate in jan once all the scans are done. But at least it's a huge load off my mind! Can't quite believe it might all be ok!
Xxxx

So glad both of your results came back positively, I went through the same thing and know exactly how you feel. I'm 34 weeks now :) wish you both happy, healthy remainder of your pregnancies. X

massagegirl · 13/12/2012 07:58

Thank you newbie. It's not the start to pregnancy I thought it would be but am crossing fingers the rest is less eventful! Hope you are feeling well , you must be getting excited now. Xx

suzyrut · 13/12/2012 09:55

Thanks newbie. 34 weeks now that's brilliant, you'll have a lovely new baby for the new year!

massage I'm sure it will take a while to sink in about it being good news, it has for me, telling people at work and my older children has helped alot for me to start thinking of this as a "real" pregnancy that's going to end with a baby (fingers still tightly crossed)!

massagegirl · 13/12/2012 12:55

Am having full cardiac scan on Monday.... Hopefully all will be well and then can tell more people! Xx

massagegirl · 17/12/2012 13:12

wow what a brilliant christmas present, you must be over the moon (when it sinks in at least!)

Do you think you'll go back to work after Christmas?

Am so pleased for you xx

massagegirl · 18/12/2012 09:03

Hi Suzy
Yes lovely Xmas present indeed. Can start enjoying it now, although hugely sick this morning! Will be back at work after Xmas and actually so looking forward to it. Did you get the results of your full cvs screening. I should have those next week, although they said its much rarer for something to come up there.
Xx

Hi,

No in the end we chose not to have the test as it was going to cost us £250 apparently because the nuchal was normal they don't do the full karaotyping (sp?) routinely in any of the London hospitals. They also said that if something did come up then they might not be able to explain it?? We had intended to but the consultant pretty much talked us out of it. My only dissapointment is that I'm now not going to find out whether it's a boy or girl, but we figured we could pay for a gender scan if we were really desperate to know. Also I have my 20 weeks scan booked on 17th so should really be able to be patient (not my biggest virtue).

Did you ask to find out the sex?

Apart from the sickness is the excitement starting to kick in??

xx

massagegirl · 18/12/2012 10:09

The consultant said she felt that as the nuchal wasn't that big and structurally everything looked normal that she didn't think anything would show in second set of tests. But they don't make promises. I'm not sure about finding out sex, would be nice to get organised and buy pink or blue but I'm not sure!!
My test was at kingston and then detailed scans at st George's. they've been really great.
Yes excitement starting and also slight fear what with being first baby!
How are you feeling? Are you other children excited? Xx

suzyrut · 18/12/2012 14:40

OMG I might've passed you in the waiting room I am at Kingston as well! Who did you see, I saw Miss Peregrine and Dr Breeze, Miss Peregrine was the one who told me that the full karaotyping wasn't necessary. I thought they were brilliant as well and in fact was thinking that I should really write a letter to say thank you but i've lost my supervisor of midwives leaflet so didn't know who to write to!

I'm feeling pretty ok, starting to feel the movements by my placenta's anterior so sometimes it's hard to differentiate between that and the digestive issues I seem to be having at the moment.

Have to see Mr Pooley on Thursday because I had pre-eclampsia with my daughter but apart from that am just looking forward to 20 week scan on 17th Jan.

How pregnant are you btw? We could easily end up on delivery at the same time!!

x

massagegirl · 18/12/2012 14:59

No way!!! I saw miss pelegrine too. Small world! She really knows her stuff... In fact the dr at George's told me that is was good to have her as she was so experienced.
I'm due 1st of June so am just over 16 weeks now. Not sure if feeling movements, some flutters I guess!
How about you? How many weeks?
Xx

Due 2nd June, this is freaky! If you tell me you live in Hampton now I swear I am going to pass out! xx

massagegirl · 18/12/2012 15:10

Ha! Strangely we looked in Hampton when buying but no I'm in esher! Am planning on swimming in Hampton pool when the weather is bit warmer though, does that count. Crazy small world! I've been into kingston loads for distraction tactics while waiting for results but its just so manic now with Xmas shoppers that buying bigger clothes will have to wait! X

OP posts:
suzyrut · 18/12/2012 16:16

Esher's lovely though I doubt there's much in Bernard for the pregnant lady!!

I found Kingston really good for maternity clothes (must be the demographic because I work quite close to Westfield where there is literally nothing), Gap, H&M, John Lewis (just Seraphine which is v.expensive) and Benetton (oh and there's that jo jo maman bebe but was totally mumsy!) and nice to actually try things on rather than just look on the internet.

Having said that I agree it is absolutely crazy there now, as I'm waking early I've been in there at 9 the last couple of times but by 11.30 I want to go home because it's getting too much!

Just wait till your son/daughter is a few years old you'll be making special trips to see the bears in Bentalls! xx

massagegirl · 18/12/2012 18:16

Will try H&M need something to wear over Xmas and new year parties as staring to feel very fat! If we don't speak before then just wanted to say have a brilliant christmas time. Thanks do much for your support and messages its made a massive difference. We'll have to meet for kingston coffee during maternity leave to celebrate healthy bumps (fingers crossed!)

Hi,

Thanks and thanks for your support too, was a massive relief to have someone to talk to who actually knew what I was going through. As supportive as my dp is (and he's great) he can be a worrier himself and I never liked to make him feel any worse!

Had consultant appointment this morning about blood pressure issue in my last pregnancy, I don't think I will be seeing a midwife again but will just be seeing him and have more appointments post 30 weeks but he didn't sound too worried at the moment though I did already test positive for protein, I just can not be normal!

Hope you're ok and yes if i don't chat to you before have a lovely (relaxing!) Christmas and will look forward to that coffee xx

massagegirl · 20/12/2012 20:31

Funny you should say about being normal. I had midwife app and they found ketones in my wee sample. Apparently means body is starting to use up fat reserves. So told to eat more often and have also read online can also be sign of dehydration... So am drinking lots.
It's upset me which is ridiculous really but I just want a break! So am trying to eat regularly but hard as no real appetite. I'm not a skinny girl so very unusual to be told to eat more... I know I shouldn't complain!
Hope your blood pressure stays ok xxx

OP posts:
suzyrut · 21/12/2012 09:48

What are we like! I know what you mean about just wanting a break, would be lovely for someone to say, yep everything's looking good, we'll see you in a month!

Ah ketones I remember those they featured heavily in the Dr Atkins diet book that my ex-husband bought me for Christmas one year! Still it's not easy to eat when you're in a state of anxiety for weeks at a time. Are you stil being sick?

xx

massagegirl · 21/12/2012 09:54

No just really nauseous, migraines and generally feeling rubbish. Hoping that upping food and water might help?!
What a charming present from your ex husband... Reckon I'd have lobbed it back at him!
In the cardiac scan they said the heart looked 'perfect' I made her say it again as couldn't believe someone was saying something like that about my pregnsncy.
Off to get my hair done, it's an absolute state I'm a little embarrassed to go but sure they've seen worse!
Xx
