Amnio results- have they let slip the sex?

Ok so I'm prepared for everyone to laugh at me here.......

Have got the amnio results through and we did not want to know the sex. Even says on results "patient does not want to know sex"

Problem is I'm far to nosey and want to know now.

It says on the results "............ and are consistent with the presence of two sex chromosomes"

That means a girl right? Xx boy/xy girl?

Or am I just talking about something else :D

I don't think so. There can be abnormalities with the sex chromosomes (xxy, xxx etc).

And it's xx girl / xy boy

Well TBH you still don't know. So people shouldn't answer! and there you go

I would interpret it to mean that your baby is XX or XY. And doesn't have certain chromosomal disorders associated with having too many or too few sex chromosomes (Turner's syndrome, Klinefelter's syndrome etc).

Yes - agree that a third sex chromosome can be present in some syndromes.
Think can also occasionally only be one.

Ds (xy) has two sex chromosomes, just as dd (xx) has two.

at you interpreting the results in that way because you really do want to know now.

Do you have any more scans booked? I had one every two weeks from 28 weeks onwards with DD. I asked at each one whether she was still a girl as I already had two boys and couldn't imagine myself with a daughter! .

They will tell you I think, if you ask. The sex will be in the report that will be held in your notes.

We were told that they wouldn't put the sex in the report that we'd get in the post (still waiting, nailbiting), but that we could phone and ask or ask at my next appointment. We could also ask them to put in the notes that we didn't want to know so that we wouldn't be told by accident.

Well it says on the outside of the envelope that the sex is inside the notes and not to open the envelope if you don't want to know just to put it in your folder.

I opened it all excited and all I see is "the patient does not want to know the sex" honestly!!! What would make them think that!!!

It must be hidden in some kind of code in the results! Anyone any ideas where?

Ah, I don't know then. It must be different from what we get. Someone will know though! I'd ask at your next appointment or just give them a phone.

Noooo that would make me one of those impatient people who can't wait till the birth.

No it doesn't tell you. It's just telling you there's the correct number. A large nuchal measurement can sometimes indicate Turner's for example (XO) and as other have said you can have extra x's or y's as well.

You know you have either a boy or a girl with no problems with the sex chromosomes.
