If you had a high risk result at 12 weeks, did you have extra scans or a more detailed 20 wk scan?

Hello

We had a high risk result at 12 weeks, 1:104 for Downs (due to combination of slightly high NT and slightly off kilter bloods).

We chose to have a CVS and the results were all clear.

Coming up to 20 week scan shortly. Now, I'm sure I remember the sonographer at our 20 week scan saying we would have an additional detailed heart scan as well as the normal 20 week scan, due to the high risk result. However, when I asked my midwife the other day, she said no I would just get the usual 20 week scan.

Can anyone share their experience/any light?

I chose not to have any specific testing done and because of my age (44) and other factors I was given a 1:9 for Downs. At the 20 week scan the sonographer asked if they found any "markers" for Downs would i like them to tell me. Therefore I assume they are able to spot certain "anomalies". My scan showed no "markers" although they said nothing could be guaranteed. (However I thought CVS was highly reliable and so therefore I suppose they wouldn't check for the specific markers for Downs)

I had a 1 in 15 risk at 12 week scan due to NT of 3.5mm and odd bloods. The prenatal assessment unit (where I had my amnio), advised that I would need a heart scan if amnio results were good.
Amnio was clear and 20 week scan was booked.
I expected to be contacted regarding the heart scan. This did not happen , so
I then phoned the prenatal assessment unit, who contacted the unit in Oxford to provide an appointment. I was given a date and time by follow up phone call and advised that 'details were in the mail'.
Nothing arrived. I chased and was told that they don't send any paperwork. A kind midwife at prenatal assessment sent me a map!
I had this scan at approximately 24 weeks.

If I hadn't chased, I don't think I would have had my scan either!!

I must add that the results were fine. DD is now 17 weeks and perfect!

I'm having a CVS next thursday due to a NT of 4.4 and risk of 1:10. Specialist has told me that if it comes back clear they would do another scan at 16 weeks and then again at 20 weeks - apparently there would be things seen at 20 not visible at 16. Not sure if they would do any more after that. But I just want to get through the CVS first

Thanks all. Beck your experience sounds similar to mine, I think I will chase up the heart scan!!

I had a risk of 1:71 for Downs, had an amnio, came back all clear. We weren't offered extra detailed scans. Maybe it depends which NHS trust you are under.
