Update on me (mrsbigz) for those who wish to read it (pg related)

Hi all Ive started this thread seperately as I wanted to update lots of you who've become my 'friends' since I first found this area almost a year ago , but also aware that not all of you wish to know about pg related updates.
For those who don't know we lost our baby girl to t21 in march 2011 and found out a few months later we were pg again. After a private nuchal where our odds seemed quite low risk we avoided invasive testing. However have had other issues in the pg, most significantly an echogenic area found in the right lung picked up at the 20wk scan. Further scans revealed a rare condition called CCAM - a cystic area which can or can not cause problems for the baby at birth. Add to that my risk of prem birth (my last ds was born at 31+3), placenta praevia (which thankfully has moved up), prolapse (which involved wearing a ring pessary for a week!), I'm afraid to say this pg has been anything but plain sailing.
Last week, at 30+4wks, my waters broke quite dramaticially as I was about to leave work. I managed the hr long drive back to Northampton hospital where I have been an in-patient since then! Yesterday I was informed that neither Northampton or Oxford hospitals had any special care beds available (which will be needed should baby make his entrance).....so yesterday afternoon I was transferred to UCH in London :( I know I have no right to to complain as I'm in a top hospital, I'm currently still pg, but i've not seen my two ds's for week and miss them terribly. My dh is looking after them and here is a long trek from home so we've agreed he'll only come down if things look like they're happening. I'm scared though as ds2 was early and a very quick birth, that by the time dh gets here he'll miss the birth. This morning sometime I have a scan to reassess the CCAM and I'm scared for then, that they'll find it's grown or is putting unecessary pressure on his other organs. And I'm just generally a bit lonely - in this huge hospital in the capital where I don't really know anyone and my family is over an hour away (at least!)
sorry for the selfpity - as you can tell
by th time (and prov the typos!!) I've not really slept - not helped by being put in a cubicle next to a new mum with a newborn!
Will try and update you later after my scan - hopefully all will be looking well. Oh - and today I'm 33+4 so have made it past ds2's gestation - so that must be a good sign!
Thanks for Reading if you made it this far!! Kate x

Hi - I don't 'know' you, but have been lurking a bit on this board since finding out I was high risk for various things last week.
You sound like you're going through such a lot, but that's brilliant to have made it to 33 +4 - I think every day you keep the baby in helps.
Fingers crossed for the scan - is there any chance it could improve before birth?
Stay strong, and keep posting if you feel lonely xx

manitz · 19/01/2012 09:39

hi mrsbigz I have messaged you. x

Tmesis · 19/01/2012 09:42

Fingers crossed for you!

Is there anything you need? I'm in London so could drop in an emergency Mumsnet care package if you look set to be there for a while.

blacktreaclecat · 19/01/2012 11:30

Hi,
You are having a very tough time, hope things get easier soon.
Xxxx

shufflebum · 19/01/2012 11:33

I didn't know your story but it really sounds like you have gone through the mill. I know how horrible it is in hospital without your family and how you struggle with the lack of sleep not to mention awful food!
Thinking of you and hang onto that baby as long as you can.

Callum Jacob was born this morning by emergency section at 10:16am. Poor daddy was on the train from Northampton trying hard to reach us - he didn't make the birth but has been into see callum since. They've ventilated him as a precaution but he seems to e responding well, thyve also done a cheat xray and the ccam
is still noticeable but doesn't look like it needs immediate intervention. Everything else so far looks good, he weighed 3lbs7ozs so not a bad weight. Thanks for all your support through this pregnancy, it's been a tough one and isn't over yet by any means!!
Kate xx

Well done Callum and mrsbigz. Do let us know how you're getting on, and I have my fingers crossed that it will all get better and better from this point.

You are in the best possible hands at UCH, they are fantastic. Can you speak to someone about an amenity room if you're in a position to be allowed one? I think they have facilities for partners to stay. PM me if you need some advice about the neighbourhood for mrbigz, especially places to stay, I used to live just around the corner from UCH and would be happy to help where I can.

jezebelle · 21/01/2012 16:37
