12 week scan unaccompanied?

I have a DD (21 months) and I'm 8 weeks pregnant. Just got my scan dates through, and I'm thinking about attending on my own, because you can't take children into the scan room and my DH would have to look after DD.

So, would this be unwise? My friend has had two missed mcs picked up at the twelve week scan (thankfully now has gorgeous healthy baby boy). She thinks I should have someone with me.

Anyway, any thoughts anyone?

I had the same problem so I got someone to come with us to the appointment and play with my 16 month DD in the waiting room while DH and I went in. We were only gone about ten minutes so she hardly noticed we were gone.

Speaking from experience I would try hard to avoid goingon your own.
I had a row with DH when he insisted on coming toa scan with DS2. I told him "I'm a big girl", "I'll be fine" amongst other things.
I wouldn't have coped without him.

Thanks for your replies. I'll have to give this some thought.
I'm concerned about arranging for someone to look after DD and thereby giving the game away that I'm pregnant. I wasn't planning to tell people until after that scan...

I went by myself, it was fine. Would have called DH if any problems.

Can you not ask someone to have her as you have an appointment and "you know what it is like trying to go to the dentists/doctors with LO in tow?"
Lie and claim a smear if they ask?!
Could DD and DH wait outside so he'd be there if you need him. I wouldn't want to go on my own. Let us know how you get on!

I asked a friend to have DS1 without saying where I was going (had a history of 2 mmc) and then went back to the friend with the scan photo.

I went to both 12 week/dating scans on my own, only took DH to the 20 week ones. DD had to come with us to the 20 week one too as no one to look after her, she was about17/17months then.

Don't do it. Take someone with you. On my second pregnancy I was really confident (had had good early scans) and ended up with a mmc, in the emergency gyno wing on my own, sobbing to a doctor, and having 2 more internal scans alone. My DH was at home watching our daughter when I called with the bad news and I had just thought I'd pop in, get the dates, and pop out. Easy to forget these are medical procedures.

same boat as a few others here - absolutely no sign anything was wrong and I had blighted ovum picked up at the 12 week scan. I am not saying anything will go wrong for you and I hope to God it's all fine, but I wouldn't take the risk

Are you sure you can't take your dd in? I went on my own, with dd in tow(aged 2 at the time) and just sat her on a chair in the scan room and handed her a box of raisins which kept her occupied. My dh has only ever been along to one scan.

I had no choice but go on my own. A combination of DHs infelxible employers and a culture where men have no part in ante natal stuff dictated that.

I went to a couple of scans (20wk and an early one) on my own with DC1 as DH coudn't take time off work as a teacher. It was fine.

Although if I had a history of mmc, then I'd have taken somebody with me.

I'll have to go to mine alone as DP won't even be in the country. terrified of something going wrong to be honest as he won't be easy to contact if it does

Went to my 20 week one accompanied only by DD1 (and a toddler doesn't really count). DH was abroad.

It's only since joining MN I've vaguely thought about what if it had been bad news. I don't know what I'd have said to DD, but I wouldn't have wanted another adult knowing before DH anyway.

they say no kids but I've taken dss aged around 10 mnths at the time to dd1's scan and taken dd1 aged 5 to dd2's scan no one minded.

I went on my own with DS. I was 21, separated and living with Mum. No one knew I was pregnant, and I was too terrified to tell anyone!

I survived!

Hello - I recently took my 22m old daughter in - I explained I had no one else to look after her, and I said if she was noisy, or put the sonographer off my husband would take her out. She chatted away, but was quite good, and the staff were fine about it, even thought they ask children not to go in. I would advise taking someone in, as I have had bad news on a 12 week scan in the past, and even though I'm quite a toughy, I really needed my other half there, and to be driven home. Dont' mean to leave on a sad note, so sorry about that. Hope all is well:) x

Hi, thanks for all your thoughts.
Just to update, I went on my own in the end, and baby's fine. I have been having pregnancy symptoms continuously (bored of sickness now) and have even developed a small bump already, so I figured the baby must be still growing.
Really sorry for those of you who had bad news at the scan.
