Really struggling today. Cvs results due tomorrow and I can't stop crying.

There was no reason to suspect this pregnancy would be any different from my others who were all healthy.

I can't stop looking at my scan picture and you can see the fluid right down my babies back.

The nt measurement was 4.7 which is not as bad as I have read on here but I feel like no one has really explained anything to me.

Am worried that the cvs is clear then I have to wait weeks for another scan to try and pin point if there is any other abnormalities.

I'm beside myself just now and have no one to talk to :(

Do you feel up to calling ARC? They have an all-day helpline here and they'll be able to explain what your hospital have not.

oh hun, remember well the waiting for results and scans. the waiting truly is the hardest part as you are in a kind of limbo land where nothing makes sense. i got through waiting by watching crappy films on telly (NOT baby related!!), eating lots of chocolate and naughty foods, my 2 DS's were also a godsend as they distracted me and i couldn't be too upset in front of them. If the CVS results are clear then that is a positive and from that you have to take one step at a time. one thing that can be thought to be caused by an enlarged nuchal is potential heart problems - with this in mind they would most likely offer you a cardioscan at 16wks (yes i know that sounds miles away). but one thing to remember is that most heart problems these days are treatable / manageable. getting the potential chromosomal problems removed from the equation will be a good thing.
do you not have a DP/DH you can talk to - or a couple of friends IRL you can speak to? if not you've certainly found the right place here, as we've all been through similar situations and i'm sure that others will be along shortly to share their experiences.
Unfortunately our outcome was not a good one, but there are plently of woman on here who have had higher nuchal measurements with a perfectly fine outcome - so you need to try and stay positve until proven otherwise.

Dh is being great but I think we are both struggling to talk to each other about what may lie ahead.

My two closest friends have not bothered much about me since I had the test done last week. Past caring about that just now as well

ifrustrated, I really feel for you, having been through the exact same thing in August (with 4.9mm reading). Try not to worry about the fluid down the back, my scan picture was exactly the same and the results came back negative.

As MrsBigz says, the waiting is the hardest part, so don't be hard on yourself for crying/shouting/whatever reaction you have. Do you work? I found work a really good distraction for the period between the CVS and the heart echo (I had a 7 week wait).

There are lots of people on here who have been through the same situation, so you can always vent on here as well as we all understand x

Breadroll-could you really see the fluid clear on the scan?

This is what is really worrying me! There seems to be a lot of positive stories about fluid behind the babies neck but I would say the fluid on my baby goes right down the length of the back.

oh hun, i'm sorry that your friends ae being distant - could just be that they don't know what to say to you to make you feel better?

my scan also had fluid right down the babys back - but there are many stories where the fluid can 'disappear' in following scans. there was a lady on here last year (peelprincess - see if you can search on her name) who had very bad odds, with a fantastic outcome. and more recently a friend of mine on here had a 6mm nuchal with fluid down the babies back, and again, following CVS and follow up scans all seems to be well with her baby - she's now 26 weeks, as i am!

i know it's really hard to remember, but these scans are just that - scans, and lots of the time they pick up things that actually aren't anything significant (but of course cause a whole lot of worry to the parents at the time).

it is hugely reassuring to read that others have had the fluid down the back that my baby has and went on to have positive outcomes.

I don't know if fluid down the back is an indicator. I just checked my scan pictures and it seems to have it all round the head. Consultant didn't mention it.

ifrustrated, sorry for the delayed response. In answer to your question, yes, if I look at my nuchal scan test photo, I can clearly see fluid behind the neck and all the way down the back and the results came back clear (I'm now 29 weeks). How did you get on? It's such an incredibly stressful time x
