NT scan result

I got my NT scan result by post on Friday. It says I am low risk and wont be offered any more test. The risk is 1:241. NT was 2mm in 12+6tt.

I am so confused. It does not seem to me low risk at all. All my friends had the risk in thousands or ten thousands.
Can anyone explain where is the limit from low risk? I am so scared...

im sorry your feeling so scared -but cant you phone up and ask them to explain the result.

HanaP · 25/10/2011 12:31

I did call them.
They told me the cut off limit is 1:150 and I am in low risk group with 1:240. They will not offer me more tests. The result of NT test were ok and I am not entitled to quadruple test.
I do not think result 1:240 is low risk and ok. In some countries the cut off limit is 1:300..
I will probably go private for more test.....

the only thing you can really do to get a definitive answer is have the CVS or Amnio. 1:241 is low risk and htey would have taken bloods too (at the same time) which would be a factor. Were those ok?

I would try not to worry. There is always the risk that you could be the 1 in however many but I had 1:80 chance and it was ok (I did have the amnio).

You need to think about what youwould do if you had a child with Downs Syndrome or one of the other things they test for... if you are not likely to terminate then there is no need for more testing. If you want to know for sure then you can have an amnio at a later date (After 30 weeks) or wait to see if there are any markers at the anomily scan.

Those really aren't bad results though.

My Antenatal Dept has just got back to me ? (@12wks)

Nuchal Scan showed 1.5/1.6

(34) Age related risk 1/400

However Risk analysis including all the above came in at 1/100,000

Which is very low risk ? we?ve opted out of having a CVS, however we still have an appoint in place for week 15 for an Amino.

I?m not too sure if I really need this. I know it?s my decision ? but would be good to hear from anyone who has or is in a similar situation.

We had a termination last year ? due to fetus abnormality ? but we we?re a very high risk. All seems well this time round ? not sure what to do.

Has anyone had similar results - and did they still have an amino... I know its our decision, I havent slept properly in almost 10/11 wks knowing that i was Preg.....

mum2b - just wanted to add my thoughts. we had a tfmr back in March at 17wks (for T21 and other related problems) following a 1:5 risk and a 7.4mm nuchal fold.
i'm currently 19wks pregnant and we had a detailed nuchal scan at 11.5wks. the results came back at 1:1700 for T21 (and even lower for T13 and T18). we were all prepared to go for either a CVS or amnio, but following those results we personally felt the risk factor was low enough to avoid them. we have been under consultant care, and scanned regularly and so far everything looks good. anomoly scan today (!) which is the next hurdle!!
obviously it's a very personal decision as to go for invasive testing, but i think with your odds i would not xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Really helps knowing what others are going thru - I pray for you and fingers crossed. Please let me know how you get on.

We have now decided that we will go back for our 15 wks scan on the 15th Nov and then make a decision wheather or not to have the amino I think.

I feel positive this time round. Will keep u posted

I had similar results at my NT scan & measured 3.8mm with a risk of 1:231 for T21 & 1:280 for T18 at 12+5. The hospital said this was fine & their cut off was 1:150.

I was shocked with the results & went privately for an additional scan. They were fab & spent 2.5 hours scanning me & reduced the risk to T21 1:5000 & T18 1:2500. They talked us through the different markers etc. Felt much happier & opted out of an invasive test & plan to stick to the 20 weeks scan.

I'm pleased we went, it really put my mind at rest & I've not worried about it since. Plus we found out the gender & got a DVD of him!

Hope you are worrying less too & all is well.

It's the invasive testing that worries, to be honest. Where did u have ur test perhaps it's an option for us... 100,000 is just a number. I lost a baby boy, then struggled to Concieve for a while so I'm praying all is well this time.

We went to the fetal medicine centre in Harley street. They're a charity & were brilliant. We plan to go back for the 20 week one too if the nhs version doesn't inspire confidence.

We were keen to avoid invasive tests too, especially as you said,it's just a number, so didn't want to take the risk.

1:100000 sound pretty good though!!
