nuchal test 1:11 for down syndrome, waiting for cvs result

not sure why I am posting really - just need a bit of hand-holding while waiting for cvs results (friday all being well). We are in shock, although shouldn't be - nuchal fold measurement 2.77mm (at 12w6d), nasal bone present (although this wasn't factored into test), one set of bad bloods (forgot to ask which), maternal age 41.

we will terminate if it's downs, and this will be our last pregnancy if that happens. Now I know that 1 in 11 means that there are 10 chances it will be fine, but I am preparing mentally for worse case scenario. Someone has to be the one. We are very stressed, of course, but this is made worse by the fact that we live somewhere that terminations are illegal, so DP will have to travel, most likely alone (we have a dd aged 2) in the event of a termination. This feels nearly as dreadful to me as the termination itself - that I won't be able to be there to comfort her :(

Just to avoid confusion, we are a gay couple and it is my DP who is carrying.

hello all - they just rang and everything is clear (well, we have to wait for the full results in a couple of weeks) for the 3 main trisomies. Tears of joy here. I am so grateful for all of your support - we are so lucky to have had a good outcome, but I feel so much for those of you who haven't. I know a little of what it feels like to stand in your shoes and you have my profound respect.

I almost can't believe it! I think that the very high hcg just threw the whole thing off and that combined with background risk and not too special NT measurement...anyway, very relieved and so touched by everybody's support, sensitivity and concern.

(maisie your comments really weren't what I needed this morning, but you clearly can't help yourself, so I am going to forgive you - but please try and remember that others have different perspectives and that timing is everything. By all means have the debate you want to have, but not on these threads)

hi that's really brilliant, i was sure you wouldn't get the result today from what you had said, so even better you haven't had a stressed weekend. hope you get something nice with that cheque!

(I couldn't agree more but i don't think it was particularly thought through). x

DuelingFanjo · 27/05/2011 17:09

Oh YAY! am so pleased for you. I remember the feeling when my DH called me to tell me our results were all clear. I asked 'are you sure?'. It was such a relief and I felt so much happier about the pregnancy after that.

So so pleased for you :)

EggletinaClock · 27/05/2011 17:12

Absolutely delighted for you! Enjoy the rest of the pregnancy and have a marvellous weekend! X

drivingmisscrazy · 27/05/2011 17:14

still can't quite believe it - DP is now absolutely shattered after all the stress, plus being pregnant (yay!), so will need some tlc this weekend...

Hooray! Just popped on to check in on your progress. Such wonderful news! I have no doubt you are both exhaughsted from all the worry. So encouraging to read happy outcomes. Enjoy your weekend, and the rest of DP pregnancy xx

ledkr · 27/05/2011 18:52

I remember the feeling too,we were in London and ran down Harley Street like idiots,i then range everyone i could think of,some who actually werent even that interested Grin You will sleep well tonight.

Deanna1977 · 27/05/2011 20:48

Thrilled for you both! Great news.

drivingmisscrazy · 13/07/2011 18:53

just wanted to add - I still think of all the wonderful support you gave me here, and I do drop into threads to offer whatever help I can. Our suspicion that this one was a boy was totally wrong - a girl. Full cvs came back fine with no cause for concern :)

pinkytheshrinky · 13/07/2011 19:07

Huge congratulations to you both - such a wonderful outcome with the rest of the pregnancy xxx

jaabaar · 15/07/2011 09:11

Ohhh the feeling!
Just read now the full thread. I had exactly the same results like you. Had a first pregnancy with DS and second was:
1:11 maternal age 41. This was two years ago. I still keep coming back to these threads to offer support sometimes as I really do know how hard it can be. I know the feeling of the bad outcome and the good one.
I wish you both joy with your babies and happiness. x

mrsbigz · 15/07/2011 11:40

hey - just wanted to say congrats on your little girl!!! xxxx

drivingmisscrazy · 15/07/2011 12:29

thanks - we are going for 20 week scan next week and they are going to look closely at her heart because of the poor nuchal - but gp listened to heartbeat and it was regular and strong, so hopefully all is well
