When do you get your results?

Hello from a clueless first timer!

Last week I had my 12 week scan, with booking appointment and bloods taken the following day. I was given conflicting information from the sonographer and the midwife about when I'd get the results - sonographer said a few days, midwife said a few weeks. Wish I'd asked for clarification at the time, but I was bombarded with information at the booking appointment, and midwife didn't explain anything very well, so I was in a bit of a tizz!

I watched the sonographer take the NT measurement, which seemed to come out around 1.4mm every time, so I think that's quite good?

I don't have another midwife appointment until 16 weeks. Do they tend to work on a "no news is good news" basis? I expect they'll be in touch if there's anything worrying with my bloods, but otherwise I'll hear nothing until I see the midwife again in 4 weeks?

I do not know where you live, but you will find that may influence the way appointments work.

Anyhow, I would say normally it is safe to assume "no news is good news", however, as a general rule, if you have any questions or worries, you should call your midwife for clarifications. Don't worry about stressing them out, it is your pregnancy and your baby, and you should be comfortable with what is going on.

I remember my first appointment and coming out all dizzy. I actually had to ask for some water as I was getting sick. My midwife said it was because she mentioned taking blood but I know it was because of the flood of information and decisions and all. So try and take a deep breath, try and see what you think it is unclear and then get on the phone to the midwife. If you are unhappy with her (it does happen that may be a bit of a clash of personalities and styles) you can ask for another midwife. No one will or should take offence.

Thanks I am beginning to realise that the procedures vary SO much from area to area. Most people don't have a scan before a booking appointment! I will phone and cross my fingers that I get some sense out of them.
