20 week scan bowel fluid/dark spots

Hi, am beside myself with worry, I had my 20 week scan on Wednesday, and everything was looking tickedy bo, when the sonographer said she could see black spots/fluid in the baby's bowel, so I now have to go to Birmingham for a more detailled scan. They were so vague as to what the problem might be, no-one I know has had this, so can't help but worry. Any experience/knowledge shared would be much appreciated.X

Hi i didn't want to see you unanswered. Sorry you are going through this. I haven't ever had bowel problems in a baby but have been referred several times and can understand how worrying this is. Can you ring your consultant to ask for more information? I've found mine helpful when i've had problems. when is your scan? I also found it helpful to argue with people to speed up the process as it made me feel i was doing something. Hope someone comes along with some answers soon. x

Thanks so much for your reply, the scan is on Monday, so not long to wait, my care is midwife lead, so I don't have a consultant to talk to, I guess that is about to change though.

ok that's good you just have to get through the weekend. Maybe call her and just ask what the usual suspects are. If she can't answer then ask for the lead consultant on duty. when I had a bad scan they made me wait in a horrible room to see a consultant. Maybe it's a good sign you haven't had to?

If you don't get anywhere. There is nothing you can do so concentrate on distracting yourself. I love knitting and it relaxes me. chocolates and a box set help. I have spent the odd night knitting a complex 3 colour blanket and sobbing to The Wire whilst eating thorntons fruit centres.

I did google it, you probably have too so you've probably seen the results of the google. I couldn't find anything dreadful or life threatening in my google search but obviously google isn't medically trained.

Yeah, I googled it too but nothing useful came back, thanks for checking though.

Spoke to a midwife after the scan and basically she couldn't tell me anything just 9 times out of 10 these things are fine(not good enough odds for my liking!) and try not to worry (as if!).

I've planned a very busy weekend to try to take my mind off things!
