Cvs today

Going for a cvs today.
Results were 1 in 50, due to age 40 and high hcg, nuchal fold ok.
2 percent chance of ds and a1percentage chance of miscarriage with the cvs. It is so scary, it feels like a game of chance.

The forums have been really helpful, but love to hear the realities of peoples results.

I don't know how I will wait 14 days for the results.

I had a cvs on the 26th January due to high nuchal fold 6mm there were no other markers for anything. I had been told no shorter than 10 days for results which would have been sat Friday, well Thursday evening I got a phone call from the hospital you can imagine how I felt as I was supposed to ring them. Anyway short story is my baby has no chromosome problems all normal I am now awaiting another phone call to let me know when to go for a heart scan.

The cvs itself was ok although I had to have it done through the cervix rather than the tummy as my placenta is low and he couldn't reach it. Took some time as I have a long cervix too due to having four other kids.
Good luck with it today all I can say is make surecyou rest for 24 hours minimum and no heavy lifting for 3 days.

I had a risk of 1:15, mostly due to the PAPP-A blood test results, but the bHCG was a bit raised, nuchal fold 2.6mm, age 35. I got the all clear on the fast results and the full karyotype.

Can you ask for the results faster than 14 days? The hospital should offer you the quick results (for Downs / Edwards / Pataus syndromes), which take 2-3 working days typically (you may have to pay). I then had to wait 2 weeks for the full results, but the quick results cover the vast majority of problems.

Hi mumtobooboo, I had my CVS 2 weeks ago today. We had 1 in 25 chance of having Edwards. All turned out ok. The doctor was lovely and asured me all was fine. 14 days is very slow for the results, I had mine in 48 hours.

Went ok yesterday. Had 2 long scans which was reassuring. Helped to see the baby as I've been feeling a bit disconnected from it all. They could see the nasal bone and said everything looked positive. Procedure was ok although jumped a bit as it went in. Consultant works in 3 different hospitals doing this so does hundreds per year so felt a bit more relaxed that I had someone who was very experienced.

Now the wait........will be 10 days. Hopital has a policy not to give quick results as they prefer to give the full results. It's going to be a long 10days:-(

Glad it went ok. Hope the 10 days doesn't drag to long. It is horrible as it seems to take longer than the 2ww.

Thanks for all your support, can't seem to think of anything else at the moment.

My HCG levels are v high 9.8. Does that sound bad? Haven't seen anyone mention levels that were that high. Worried that this might mean there are other issues.

My HCG levels weren't measured it was just the nuchal fold,didn't even have the bloods done as they said it wouldn't have made any difference due to my age.

On monday I had scan results of 5.3mm, followed by blood tests indicating a 1 in 2 chance of s problem.

I had the CVS yesterday, the whole appointment took about 15 minutes, including chat and scan - the actual CVS took about 30 seconds. The doc told me to wiggle my toes and concentrate of regular breathing. I have a strong fear of needles and I found the whole thing bearable - the thought of it is far worse. Yes, it isn't nice, but it is over so quick. One thing I would say is don't look at the needle or the scan screen.

I am scared stiff of my results, the inital indications will be back after 48 hours. I don't think mine is looking good. These things are clearly sent to test us.

Results came in today - and it's an all clear. I can't stop crying!!! It is such a relief and the 10 day wait was unbearable.
Only concern now is my hcg levels.....at 9.6 they are not just high but off the scale. They think it maybe due to the placenta not working properly, so I now have scans at 20,24,28 weeks to monitor.

Btw- it's a little girl. I've alway been so against finding out the sex of the baby, but after so much worry it so nice to know everything and be able to start planning again.

My thoughs go out to everyone going through similar tests and choices. When I had my cvs they took a blood sample to be used in a research project for a new test, where they can test just by blood sample looking at DNA. It is 10years away but hopefully in our babies lifetimes mothers will no longer have to go through invasive testing anymore.

Hurray for such great results and WOW at 9.6! I had to wonder if you'd originally made a typo as that is crazy high as you say. In fact it's probably so high it's not a marker at all as it's clearly caused by something else (hopefully benign!)

Very glad they'll be watching you closely.

I've heard about the blood test. The Americans are saying they will get it in a few years if not less, but here they are saying not for at least five years or more. I wish they would hurry up regardless, goodness knows (I'm waiting it out with 1 in 34 and going quietly insane) it would make all our lives so much better.

Mumtobooboo, so happy for you that it has come back all clear.I cried uncontrollably on the phone to the midwife too so they are probably used to it. I know it's wrong to look at google but have you googled your levels to see what they mean. Just think of all the extra scans you get now though. I had my 16 weeks one on Monday to check the body over and my baby has a short femur but then all my children have short legs so it was no surprise. So another detailed anomoly scan at 20 weeks then another heart scan at 23 weeks.

Huge congratulations on your baby girl.

ghansell - I am 28 weeks. I'm possibly getting an amnio at 32 weeks - I will go to the appointment and talk to the doctors there about the risks and then make my choice! All ultrasounds have been clear so far, which is promising (the risk is from the bloodwork) but there are always stories of clear ultrasounds and less than ideal results..
