Amniosentesis Yesterday

I had my Amnioenstesis yesterday morning and am terrified of the results. I know the initial results will be back sometime on or before Friday but Im having great dificulty convincing myself that everything is going to be alright.

My 12 week Annomily scan showed all clear with good measurments but my bloods came back with
T21 1 in 75
T13 1 in 75 and
T18 1 in 75

Can anyone offer any advice on how to keep myself calm and reassured please?

Has anyone had markers for all 3 and been given the all clear?

Does having markers for all 3 give an overall higher chance of having 1 or more of them confirmed?

Any advice is greatfuly received.

Hi there, I had a CVS on Monday and am also waiting for results so I sort of know what you're going through. I had a risk of 1 in 55 for DS (T21) but am low risk for T13 and T18 so can't really comment on that I'm afraid. All I can really say is take some confidence from the fact that the measurements were good. Anecdotal evidence indicates that blood results give more false positives than NT measurements. And remember you still have a 74 in 75 chance of a good result. I know how hard it is to keep that in mind as I feel like it's just 50/50. A yes or a no. But all you can do now is try to stay positive but also prepare for the worst. Personally I'm trying not to think about it at all. Everything is determined now. It's only a matter of waiting for results so I'm doing all I can to distract myself (apart from coming on here obviously!). Sorry not to be more help but really hope you get good results quickly.

Thanks, its nice to know im not the only one waiting on results. To be honest the Downs does not scare me, however the other two absolutly scare the monkeys out of me. Im trying to stay calm but its rather hard as everywhere i search only ever gives information on bad results not good ones.

I hope you get good results also.

I just got my results much earlier than I had expected (or let myself hope for) and I've got the all clear. I truly hope you do too. And that someone else can give you more advice on your situation. If you haven't already tried them quite a few people on hear recommend talking to ARC. Good luck!

I had a 1 in 3 for Downs, though low risk for the others which came back as clear, so hold that thought, you have a much better chance than I did.

Not much help but didn't want to read and run.

IIRC T13 is Edward's Syndrome so you have a 1 in 75 chance of the baby having this, I think.

If your child does have this it doesn't have to be the end of the world. Girls are more likely to have this. Some babies will die at birth, some by the time they are 1 and others can live to at least nine or ten, even older.

I highly recommend the ARC. I phoned them when my baby was thought to have ES.

I'm so sorry to hear you're having to go through all this, I know what an awful and worrying time it is, I went through it a year ago. I was given horrendous odds,

T21 1 in 2
T18 which is Edwards 1 in 2
T13 Which is Patau 1 in 5

Sadly my baby had Edwards, however I had lots of soft markers which were seen on the scan, the bowel had grown outside the babies body, heart defect and kidney defect. I would think the fact your scan went so well must be a positive thing. Only advise I can give to get through the next few days is to try and keep yourself busy, however is best for you to do that, maybe work or try and see friends or relatives?

Hi thinking of you.It's a terrible thing to go through My risks were 1 in 30 I in 13 and 1 in 24 .I had an amnio and all was ok ,DS born 7 years ago.My recollection is that having the higher risk for 3 does not translate to a highr risk for each one ,if you know what I mean.I remember I could not get my head round that.The midwife could confirm that I expectDid the scan seem to go ok I remember at the amnio I could not even look at the scan but the opertor saying things looked ok and this ,while nothing definite,was a good sign.Thinking and praying for you

getting my head round everything is that part im struggling with. I know there is absolutly nothing i can do to determin the outcome of the test but it doesnt stop you wanting to do something.

im hoping that all comes back clear as i really cant face thinking about the options and choices we may have to make.

I would definitely try and not think to much about the what ifs, it is very difficult to predict how you will feel until you have the results, and therefore I think very difficult to make any decisions until you know whether there is a problem.

I remember my husband wanting to go through every scenario and every possibility, and whether we'd do this or that, and I just couldn't face even talking about it until we had the CVS results back.

hi hope for baby. I recently terminated a pregnancy of a baby who was found to have downs syndrome. I agree with others that you can go mad thinking about what ifs whilst waiting for results. However I also found it useful to think about different scenarios and issues whilst waiting for results so that i didn't make an off-the-cuff decision.

I would suggest that you look at the downs association website for all the facts about living with a child with downs syndrome. it is extremely touching and gives you all the facts.

Thanks for sharing with me. Im currently researching on the Downs Association website and also living with T13 and 18. Am trying to cover all bases research wise.
i hope the results are good but if not then we have alot of factors to consider. Not only could we cope but also the life of the child also also the inpact it would have on our children who when this child is born will be aged 7 and 5.

Good luck. i have three kids, the oldest two are the same age as yours. That was a factor in my decision as was long term care for the child. I had a nuchal of 7 and also had hydrops which indicates additional health problems and a strong likelihood of stillbirth/miscarriage. Dh strongly wanted to terminate the pregnancy no matter what I was in two minds but the hydrops definitely swung it for me.

Medicine and testing allow us to make choices that wouldn't have been available to our parents. It puts us in a position that is really hard to understand but I think it is important to consider all the options before making such an important choice and then try not to worry about what could have happened, i don't regret my choice and i think that has helped with the grieving.

your chances of having a good result are really good. xx

My bloods were very bad at my NT scan and gave me a risk of 1:4 for Down's (don't know the risk for the others - sorry). My combined risk was 1:20. I had a CVS and got the all clear. So feel reassured that even very bad blood results can have a good outcome!

I know the waiting game is just so tricky but keep strong. Good luck!

Nope unfortuntaly the initial counts can only say yes or no to what they are testing for, the full results however which are due in about 7 - 10 days will be able to tell us if its Team Pink or Team Blue
