Short term variation on fetal trace

I have just returned from the hospital after being hooked up on a fetal trace for 30 mins. I am 32 weeks. I went in as I hadn't felt baby move for 18 hours and cold drinks, ice cubes etc whilst lying on my LHS hadn't worked so was told to come in.

Midwife said everything looked ok but pointed out that the "short term variation (MS)" figure looked a little low. It was 7.5 and she felt it could be higher.

Is there anyone here who can explain this to me, I'm particuarly interested to understand why this could be low and any implications of this with regards baby's health.

Sorry not good at links, this gives a lot of information about STV, it says low STV indicates a problem but a reading in excess of 3 would be considered reassuring.
