V sorry: termination - medical or surgical? Wd be grateful for advice

Firstly, I am so very sorry if this causes distress to anyone. I could not see anywhere else to post this thread.

I am 30, just over 6 weeks pregnant and have to have a termination. I feel wretched about it but the decision has been made.

I realise to some this may be academic but I need to choose the method. I am pretty upset about it and the surrounding circumstances and I can't make a decision, and somehow the method has become crucial.

With regard to timing there is no delay for either method and both are done at Marie Stopes, my local NHS Trust's provider.

Originally I was opposed to the medical method for the lack of medical support and the pain and its duration that I have heard about.
An anaesthetic/sedation seems preferable, and I think I would prefer to be in a clinical setting with a doctor. I just wonder if it would be better to be at home instead.

Does anyone have any experience of either which would help me? Of anything, whether at Marie Stopes or anywhere.

I dont think you have the medical version at home, honey. As far as i know you still have to go into hospital.

I have done both, for various reasons that I won't go into.

Both were fine. The medical version means a lot of stomach cramps, but I did not find them as bad as my period pains which are pretty awful.

With the surgical option, it was over with quickly and was followed by what seemed like a heavy period.

I had a surgical termination for fetal abnormalities in June. Obviously the emotional side of it all is taking me a long time to come to terms with but the actual procedure itself was over very quickly. I had a bit of pain immediately after the op but a couple of painkillers soon helped with that.

I then bled quite heavily for about 3-4 days, then not so heavily on and off for a few weeks. Physically I was fine pretty much the day after.

I'm sure whatever method you choose will be the right one for you.

I had both. Surgical was a nightmare but that was because I had a crap doc doing it.

I had a medical in 2006- GP referred me to BPAS and they were brilliant.

In comparison,I felt with the medical that it was harder work but easier to deal with.

Went twice to the clinic and was given the tablets and then I was at home for the final phase. It was great comfort to be able to curl up in my own bed while DH looked after me once it was all over. I also found my body recovered better after the Medical.
