How to get my “Spark” back - post natal depression

Hi,

My son is nearly 1 year old I’m struggling to get my spark back. I make zero effort with my appearance or my clothes anymore, I just have zero interest and that’s not like me. I used to make an effort every day with how I looked, I do have post natal depression which I started therapy for last week.

I was just looking for some advice, I feel really low and have zero confidence anymore. I want to feel more like myself and make an effort like I used too 😔

Not related to having children (I have 4 but not the reason for losing spark), I found listening to music I used to really love, reading magazines, going to places that used to make me feel me- plus one day I went trying on clothes I couldn’t afford to buy but it reminded me I wasn’t such a lump😃 Then I did the leg shave, moisturise, paint nails etc. Op that age is so young and sleep was a huge thing for me which is so hard x best of luck

Go get your lipstick now, look in the mirror and put it on.
Next week add a pop of daily mascara too.

When you’re next in town, buy some lovely scented shower crème or body wash just for you. Try a spritz of perfume after you’re dressed.

Tiny steps in the feminine pre/baby direction might help? You’ve been through a lot. Be kind to yourself.

How would you feel about trying one new thing (or one thing you've not done since the baby was born) each day? Just little things to start with, and not necessarily focused on appearance, but just to remind your mind that you can do things a little bit differently, and see how you respond to it.

Eg maybe one day wear a skirt instead of leggings. Another day spend an extra few minutes making yourself a pot of tea instead of a tea bag. Another day wear your hair in a way you haven't done it since your little one was born. Another day pop some flowers or greenery in a jug in the kitchen. Maybe another day do a little sketch on a notepad if you used to draw, or pick up an old favourite book for a few mins, or listen to your favourite song from when you were 20 (or whatever age you like).
Just little things that might feel like things are a bit new/different, and also be a little bit of self care.
See how you go and you might find some joy / spark or a sense of your old self in the process x

Edited to say I spent so long typing this that others had already said the same things! Best of luck with it OP, I hope you're feeling more yourself again soon x
