Scared to take setraline

My mental health is pretty bad at the moment and I’ve been prescribed Setraline. How did others get on with it? I’m worried about it affecting my sleep as I already have trouble sleeping and a 10 weeks old that wakes every few hours

Hi OP, congratulations on your baby - first of all well done for getting help, that’s a huge step.

I’m not postpartum but I started taking it in January for severe anxiety/burnout and - alongside therapy - it’s been life changing for me. It gave me a bit of a dodgy tummy for the first couple of weeks and took a bit of time to settle, but I’ve not really had any side effects apart from that.

My main advice would be don’t google - i really went down a rabbit hole and spent ages online looking for every possible side effect.

I usually take it late morning after I’ve had some breakfast, it gives me really loopy dreams if I have it last thing! Do you have someone you can talk to? I found journaling really helpful as well; I kept a notebook by my bed and write in it throughout the day and in the evening.

Good luck, it’s a really tough place to be but you can do it 💪🏻

So I’m not on setraline - but on another anti anxiety med, but I just wanted to say I felt the same when I was prescribed meds.

What I would say is don’t overthink it and if you have agreed with your GP that meds would be helpful for you, then just take it.

Most meds do have side effects but they are short term - I think if you accept early on that you are likely to experience some it’s easier when you feel them.

It made me feel too happy and excited. I had to stop.

Hi, sertraline is very safe to take with a baby. I was prescribed it when I had a young baby. It’s very effective and I’m so glad I took it as it helped manage the symptoms. If you’re being offered any other therapies, take them up too. It just helps to share the mental load sometimes. Hope you feel better soon and dm if you want to discuss it privately. Xx
