Birth control implant causing severe mental health issues

Hi there,

I've been on Nexplanon for a year now and wanted to know of anyone else who has had these experiences.

Previously suffered from depression and anxiety but since getting the implant, I've not been doing well at all.

My mood drops drastically to the point of crying or severe anger. I'm constantly extremely lethargic and I've picked up loads of weight. I'm thinking of removing it but I wanted to know if anyone else has had similar symptoms.

Thank you

I'm on it, been on it 7 years & 4 years before that and never had an issue.

I've had it on and off 14 years. I've always had depression and anxiety though so I can't say either way but it's an interesting thought.

The depo shot most definitely was the cause of my first depressive episode. I’m sure I am genetically predisposed but it was definitely the trigger.

Birth control is entirely capable of causing mental health problems. It does not matter how many other people are or are not affected you need to see if it is affecting you. Can you stop for a longish period, think 3-6 months, and see what changes?

Mine sent me bonkers, I told the gp that they didn't take it out asap I was doing it myself with a kitchen knife.

I had an implant over 20 years ago. Felt like 6 little matchsticks under my skin. Don't know if it's different now. Anyway it just made me bizarrely calm and bovine. I went to work, came home, had soup and sandwich for tea, read a book, went to bed. Every day for 6 months - was a fabulous contraceptive as I never went out, never met anyone. It did utterly change my personality but reverted back to my adventurous chaotic self when it wore off

If it's actively making you feel bad I think you should have it removed.
