Dilated bowel 36 weeks

Hi, at my 20 week scan everything was fine apart from right at the end they found a mild echogenic bowel. This was really scary but we were refered to the fetal medicine people and after some tests, it seemed positive. I didn't have an infection, my partner does carry the CF gene but I do not so they were quite positive about that. Since then he's been growing well so that wasn't an issue. Another thing it could be is the baby swallowed some blood and will be fine. We've had a few growth scans since and didn't have to go to fetal medicine anymore and then today at the 36 week growth scan the sonographer said she thought the bowel was dilated a bit (15mm) so we've been refered back to fetal medicine now to see if they want to see us again or if they think it will be ok. Really worried now once more, has anyone had a similar experience? Felt positive the last like 3 months because of how positive the consultant in fetal medicine was and now it's hit me for six again. It still could be nothing. The two scans we've had before today's were good and the sonographer said they couldn't even see much of a problem. Thanks

We didn't have an amniocentesis, my genetic results at 12 weeks were all low risk but worried about this now

Hi OP, I know some time ha passed but I have the very same thing you mention above with my pregnancy. Can I ask how it all went?

Hi, sorry I haven't seen this sooner. My baby was born in April and he was completely fine! They wanted him to have a bowel movement before we left and luckily he did and to be checked over by the pediatrition and there were no problems. We've never had an explanation for the echogenic bowel or dilated loops, I suppose. It was just one of those things.
Good luck, I know how stressful it is
