Depression before pregnancy?

Hi

We've just found out we are pregnant this week and I have struggled with depression and anxiety for at least 10 years diagnosed, probably before that as well. I am currently on fluoxetine, has anyone had any experience with this? GP has booked me in for initial appointment with midwife at 8 weeks but didn't mention my medication when I spoke with them. A quick google says there shouldn't be any issues, but I'm worried that if I do have to come off I won't be able to cope. I get stressed so easily with DH and at work, and the last couple of weeks I have been so emotional and tearful even on the meds.

Does anyone know if pre-natal mental health can make you more likely to have PND?

My husband has recently been diagnosed as stage 5 CKD so he is likely to need dialysis in the next couple of months before he can get the transplant work up sorted so that is an additional stress on us! Luckily we have my family nearby and they are a great support but it's a lot for us to deal with.

Hello,
I was on citalopram and duloxetine when I got the positive, I've also had depression and anxiety for 10 years. I also lost my husband after caring for him for 2 years in 2016 so still dealing with that.

You will be fine. Promise. The NHS are amazing with prenatal mental health (unlike any other time!). I slowly and safely came off them and have been fine. I get longer appointments with midwives and follow up appointments with a psychiatrist at the hospital throughout and after the pregnancy. BUT there are completely safe antidepressants you can take during pregnancy so don't panic that you will have to come off them.

Xxx
