Depression during pregnancy?

Hi,
Has anyone had to come off of anti-depressants due to falling pregnant and finding it difficult to cope with? Because i am :(

My sister did and she found it hard. Everyone thought her original pnd would have gone because she was pregnant again but that wasn't the case.

Now following on from the birth of her second baby, she is finding it hard and thinking about asking to go back on them again.

Are you eating happy foods high in selnium and melatonin to help? Apricots and brazil nuts are really good.

Got taken off them as gp explained there was liitle research on new things I was taking, which I agreed with. However, have been struggling with stress at work, anxiety about the pregnancy (12wks yesterday), so ended up back in gp surgery with one of the less sympathetic gps who immediately wrote out a prescription for low dose setraline-lots of research on this. Though unsympathetic he was practical, saying that being massively depressed probably does more harm to babies by messing us up, outweighing any risks from meds.I have long history of depression, so have also been referred to mental health midwife, but have decided for once to follow medical advice and go with what I am told to do.
It seems like lots of people on here are taking various anti deps through their pregnancies, with support of their docs. Maybe go and have a talk with gp?

Hi. I stayed on my anti depressants during all 3 of my pregnancies. I tried to come off during preg 1 but really struggled and ended up back on them but on a lower dose. I'm glad that I did as I still ended up with pnd afterwards but (im assuming) at a much lower level than had I come off totally.

I felt awful taking the tablets during the preg as there wasn't any research on it's effects on the baby but it was deemed by the GP that the benefits of taking them outweighed the potential risks.

I'm very, glad that I stayed on them. I agree that the potential stress I would have been under would have been more dangerous for the baby.

I'm now dealing with the issues that caused me stress with baby 1, ( in my case, an emotionally abusive childhood by the 2 mother figures in my life - resulting in me being petrified of becoming a Mum, myself as I didn't know how too ( fears only as fortunately I had strong natural maternal instincts ), hope to wean myself off my tablets and try for number 4 without drugs.

I am taking anti deps and am pregnant, I am not coping very well at all. Even tho I am still on the anti deps. Doctor says to keep taking them.
