Ok so on a local page a cat in the area (not my cat) got ran over by a group of lads with scooters …. They then Proceeded to throw said cat over a high wall into a nearby cemetery… the owner then found cat in pieces …. Naturally she was devastated .
I didn’t know the woman or her cat however I cannot get this scenario out of my head I keep ruminating about it and how cruel it was and the pain the cat must have endured and the owner when they found them … surely I’m not bonkers but for some reason this has really affected me … I gave my kitty extra cuddles at 2 am ….
is this an overreaction do I need therapy am I histrionic ?any advice please

So you thought you'd share the scenario for more people to have in their minds?

If it is bothering you that much why post it for others in detail without any hint in title

If you were just looking for advice about how to deal with how you were feeling there was no need to recount what happened, you could have said you had seen something distressing

ThelmaDinkley · 26/08/2023 20:00

That’s horrible. Humans can be evil bastards 😡

partypompoms · 26/08/2023 20:00

Somethings just affect us more. And you are right to be upset it's bloody awful.

They've hit a nerve. I avoid the news now as previously some things have very seriously upset me and I've fixated on them. In time it gets better but I I've found I literally have to stop myself thinking of the scenarios.

Can you literally say to yourself stop thinking of this each time it pops in your head. Distract yourself. It'll pop back of course but keep up the stop and distraction and it will pass in my experience.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 26/08/2023 20:01

You need to edit your title and make it clear that it contains graphic and distressing detail. I didn't even read past the first few sentences but that was enough to bring back something I'd rather forget.

No there's not...

MrsB2603 · 26/08/2023 20:21

I think you’re just empathetic, I get like that too, I can’t get terrible news stories out of my head sometimes, you will eventually stop thinking about it

10HailMarys · 26/08/2023 20:26

Of course it's upsetting and of course it's perfectly normal to find it hard to get it out of your head. I think any normal person with an ounce of kindness in their soul would find it utterly horrible and certainly anyone who is an animal lover.

However, what did you hope to achieve by picking over every horrible detail there for everyone else to be upset by? You sound like the sort of person who reads misery memoirs about abused kids and has to keep telling people how sad and awful they are, or who can't let a horrific child murder case go by without posting a link on Mumsnet and saying 'AIBU to think this is horrific?' so everyone can take a ghoulish interest.

000adviceplease · 26/08/2023 20:30

I felt I had to give context.
Never shared any links to anything like th at in my life @10HailMarys

Awwwww OP, this would break my heart too. I don’t think you are wrong for posting this, sometimes you just need to discuss things that make you feel sad or horrified.

Someone shot my cat when I was a child and it died. It broke my heart and the poor cat fought so hard to survive for a week. It haunted me for a long time and even now i can’t believe it happened to my darling cat.

You need to tell yourself that there are SO many amazing people in the world that are kind to animals and so many fighting for their care and proper treatment.

Do you know if anything is being done about this incident?

000adviceplease · 26/08/2023 20:37

@Angryappendix so sorry to hear your experience.
I think this is the crux of the matter, I cannot find the post and it is internally churning me up the thought that there are no repercussions from the perpetrators of this horrific crime 😪

This sort of thing is why I prefer animals to people. If the kids had done that to one of our cats it would be the last thing they ever did. Hope karma gets them.

partypompoms · 26/08/2023 21:53

I think you are getting a hard time here. I don't think you've posted that many details.

Try to manage your thoughts away from the scenario. Knowing more details won't help. These bastard won't really get what's coming to them so don't waste energy on them.
