To ask if any opticians are about ..I'm worried

I work as a microblading and semi permanent make up artist which obviously involves close work under bright lights including a bright spotlight over the clients face.

Been doing it a couple years now never had any issues. but in the last few weeks while working on clients usually about half hour into a treatment my short to mid distance vision gets slightly blurry. I'm fine close up ie looking at the clients face and also in the distance. but looking at things around 6-10 feet in front of me I'd say, it's almost like when you've been staring at a bright light and I struggle to focus on certain stuff. I see slightly blurry spots. It goes off after about half hour after I finish my client.

Always Have regular eye tests and been fine Altho I've always been v short sighted (minus 7😳) but corrected with glasses and contact lenses. I've booked an eye test for tomorrow but I'm bricking it

My general vision is fine and unchanged since my last eye exam. but it's just during and for a short while after I've been working 😔

I would hate to give up my work I love it. But what if it is ruining my eye slight? And also my mind is going to even worse scenarios in case it's not even vision related but like something badly wrong (I have bad anxiety anyway particularly health related) . But I'm hanging on to the fact it is perfectly fine when I'm not working

Anyway if anyone in Similar work has had similar or if any opticians around I would appreciate some advice or hand holding please 😔

And just to add it subsides quicker if I close my eyes

Migraine with aura? That’s how mine manifests.

Migraine with aura? That’s how mine manifests.

I get them occasionally too !

But mine are different to that and I get pain afterwards

But when I get this when working I don't get any pain or other migraine symptoms

How old are you?

I've noticed the same thing the last few months. If I spend a long-ish time looking at my phone, or something quite close to my face, my vision is then quite blurry looking at things further away. Like you find, it lingers a good 30-45 minutes for me.

I'm 38, pushing 39. Not worried about it particularly. Think it's just a sign that I might need reading glasses/varifocals soon!

My yearly optician appointments are in the Autumn, and I'll certainly mention it then, but I'm not concerned enough to chase it up before then.

Please let us know what your optician says!

Ahh okay thank you I am wondering if this is what is is

Do you get them from doing certain activities as well? I don't get them at any other times ...It's a bit worrying if my actual work is going to keep bringing them on 😞

How's your posture when you're working? It could be you're causing tension along the trap muscles and it's pinching the nerve causing a migraine.

underneaththeash · 16/05/2023 21:36

I’m an optometrist. Sounds nothing like a migraine. It’s probably a combination of your age (the lens which does the focussing gets harder as you get older) - you may have even got slightly less short-sighted. It could also be that your contact lenses are droning slightly.

anyway it’ll probably just need a tweak of your contact lens prescription for the time being.
nothing to worry about!

Luckingfovely · 16/05/2023 22:24

I had exactly this - varifocals sorted it instantly!

Thank you Flowers

Hopefully it's just needing varifocals then. Yeah I don't think it's migraines as I looked them up and it says that any visual weirdness / blurriness only affects one eye

But it's both eyes and I don't have any other migraine symptoms .

As I say I get the occasional visual migraine every few months and it's totally different to what I've been experiencing at work

Well I've got my appointment at 9:30 so fingers crossed that I can get sorted
