No white eggs please

Sorry, this has nothing to do with racism, it's about eggs!

I love eggs and have one every morning for breakfast, I've just opened my latest shopping delivery eggs and I have been given a dozen white eggs instead of my usual brown. I don't like white eggs, I don't like the look of them, I don't like the taste of them, I just don't like them.

AIBU to put a note to the picker to only give me brown eggs in future?

How is the taste different?

Cyclingmug · 22/08/2023 08:51

Just make sure you pick free range

SpunkyGibbon · 22/08/2023 08:54

No true free range @Cyclingmug because of bird flu

Todaywego · 22/08/2023 08:54

You're being ridiculous.

AlwaysFreezing · 22/08/2023 08:54

Nearly every egg youve ever eaten from a commercially produced product is a white egg. Quiche? White eggs? Pasta? White eggs.

WishIHadAButler · 22/08/2023 08:54

This is a bit precious OP.

frustratednomad · 22/08/2023 08:54

Brown eggs taste richer and the orange yolks look more appealing, white eggs yolks look pale and insipid and are tasteless.

I always buy free range, maybe I will have to change to a more expensive egg, to guarantee a brown one.

Have a look at the latest restrictions.

frustratednomad · 22/08/2023 08:56

I don't mind them in things like quiches, cakes etc as other ingredients mask the taste but I like a lovely orangey yolk in my boiled egg.

The colour of the yoke comes from what the hens are fed. The colour of the shell... Google is your friend. 🙄😂

skilpadde · 22/08/2023 08:58

I agree with the previous poster. All the eggs in the boxes for that brand are likely to be the same colour, indicating that they've switched the breed, and the pickers can't help you with that.

You'll want to work out which brand of eggs sold by your supermarket sells brown eggs, and order those.

Apparently, in the UK brown eggs are much more popular so there are millions of ISA brown hens here. Waitrose get their brown eggs from blacktail hens, I think.

In the US, white eggs are the default. There's no taste difference, it's just an aesthetic preference.

This list is good, it says the most ethical supermarket eggs are Clarence Court Organic Leghorn Whites.

TheBarbieEffect · 22/08/2023 09:00

YABU. You can’t request that.

Or you could yanno, go into a shop and physically buy eggs.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/08/2023 09:02

What are you buying? The only white shelled eggs I've ever seen in UK supermarkets are Waitrose mixed free range cheapest ones.

But YABU because the eggs inside are exactly the same.

MzHz · 22/08/2023 09:02

Good grief! What am I reading?

TheInseparables · 22/08/2023 09:06

You might only have had poor quality white eggs before and so assumed that white shells mean poor quality eggs. That’s not true. My mum’s chickens produce white eggs due to the breed- the eggs are great because the chickens have a lovely life and top quality food plus foraging.

DdraigGoch · 22/08/2023 09:08

Chickens of different breeds will produce egg shells with different colours but the yolk will be exactly the same, provided that they've been kept in the same conditions and fed the same food.

I had a box of eggs from a local place, all sorts of sizes and different colour shells (including blue), but the yolks were identical in colour.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 22/08/2023 09:09

As someone who keeps chickens of different breeds producing different coloured shell eggs I can promise you it’s all in your head. She’ll colour doesn’t affect taste and has nothing to do with yolk colour.

This is a stupid clickbait title.

No they don’t.

CatsOnTheChair · 22/08/2023 09:10

Yolk colour comes from the quality.
Shell colour doesn't affect taste in any way, shape or form.

Interestingly, we had a box of white shelled eggs recently. Can't remember what they said on the box, as eggs are still low in stock around here, and I'm just happy to be able to buy a box each week (which isn't always the case).

OzziePopPop · 22/08/2023 09:10

My chickens lay…

white
brown
pinkish
green and
blue

eggs.

they taste the same!

maybe try duck eggs, much richer, really tasty!
