No white eggs please

Sorry, this has nothing to do with racism, it's about eggs!

I love eggs and have one every morning for breakfast, I've just opened my latest shopping delivery eggs and I have been given a dozen white eggs instead of my usual brown. I don't like white eggs, I don't like the look of them, I don't like the taste of them, I just don't like them.

AIBU to put a note to the picker to only give me brown eggs in future?

Clarence Court, both the blue and brown shelled eggs, have reliably tasty darker yolks.

I've been getting the eggs from Tesco, never had a problem before

I had white eggs from Tesco for breakfast on Sunday. They absolutely did not have pale yolks or an insipid taste.

Tesco free range eggs are white at the moment, they taste the same as the brown ones. It's a cultural thing, isn't it? We like brown eggs because they look more "natural", other nationalities (well, the US 😂) like white ones because they look pure. It's also what we/they are used to.

The colour of the egg is just due to the breed of hen. I used to keep chickens and the eggs tasted much better than supermarket ones.

best supermarket ones are Clarence court but I’ve not bought them in a long time, they’re so expensive now! We get through about three dozen eggs a week so would cost a fortune 😩

IME, having specifically looked for them for an egg-dyeing Easter craft, it’s pretty difficult to find white-shelled eggs in the UK. They taste exactly the same.

I prefer darker yolks but it's not linked to the shell colour. Some of the palsy shell colours can have deepest colour yolks, it mostly depends on the breed of the chook. From the Clarence court range most of their eggs have the deep orange yolks and they come in pure white, blue, green and brown shells.

They also wash their eggs in the USA, which is banned here as it allows producers to disguise poor husbandry. This is also why the eggs are in the chiller cabinets in US supermarkets, as washing removes the protective bloom on the egg and means they have to be refrigerated.

As someone who keeps chickens of different breeds producing different coloured shell eggs I can promise you it’s all in your head. She’ll colour doesn’t affect taste and has nothing to do with yolk colour.

I was going to post exactly the same. Since we stopped keeping hens and buy from the supermarket I think they're all a bit less tasty and colourful on the inside but that's quality rather than shell colour.

We’ve just been in the US and had white shelled free range eggs. No discernible difference in taste. The only white shelled eggs I’ve had in the U.K. came from the butchers in lockdown ( when they were out of stock in my local supermarket). I suspect they were European imports and were sadly probably not free range. Didn’t get those again.

The yolk colour depends on what the hen has been eating.

Nutritionally they are identical.

I’ve never unstood eggs.

We had chickens for years and while it was lovely having them as pets (they would follow me around the garden and come into the house), our eggs worked out so expensive. Admittedly we probably fed them too well, what with the grain, corn and shell stuff. But I can honestly say, their eggs tasted the same as the supermarket ones.

Also, why do we generally keep them in the fridge when we buy them from the supermarket shelf?

Unwashed eggs don’t need to be refrigerated but they do need a constant cool temperature. Supermarkets are climate-controlled and the temperature is therefore more consistent than a domestic kitchen. If you can guarantee a constant cool temperature in a larder or pantry then you can store your eggs there, but in most kitchens the most consistently temperature-controlled space is the fridge.

The egg industry is disgusting. Male chicks go straight in the mincer. All supermarket eggs are mixed up and not truly free range like they say. Stop eating eggs.

I read that white eggs were more ethical (really can't remember why but a quick Google search will tell you). I truly don't believe there's a difference in taste. I buy them all the time and can't notice any difference. I think it's your mind playing tricks on you.

Brown eggs taste richer and the orange yolks look more appealing, white eggs yolks look pale and insipid and are tasteless.

I always buy free range, maybe I will have to change to a more expensive egg, to guarantee a brown one.

The look of the inside of the egg has nothing to do with what the outside looks like.

I seem to remember the reason there were white eggs in lockdown was because the restaurants weren't taking any eggs & so they were being sold in shops. No idea why the ones going to restaurants should be white.
I presume it's similar at the moment, there's been a shortage/bird flu problems so supermarkets are selling whatever they can get.
