@NearlyMidnight you have absolutely no idea of my financial situation. Or what happened to it in lockdown. but you go on assuming and projecting if it makes you feel better.

You're entitled to think what you like - happily. But my point was that if you can afford not to get paid for days, weeks or months then you're likely to be in the minority. Lockdown was the same - so many people lost all their money, their homes, their livelihoods - and those that sat at home on full pay gleefully preached at them.

The sector I’m in is more worried about being denied the ability to work so strikes won’t be appealing. Especially after pandemic.

Perfect28 · 02/02/2023 22:13

Sazzling what does 'slim down the public sector' mean in reality? It means if you can't afford private health or education you just don't get it. I fail to see how anyone can defend that point of view.

Ideally it would involve doing away with a lot of the management level non-jobs. In reality though, those tend to proliferate and it's the front line who are targeted for cuts.

Perfect28 · 03/02/2023 06:44

I'm just not sure where these supposed people at the bloated management level are? In my experience, everyone is running around like a headless chicken with an endless to do list. There is zero money to employ anyone who isn't absolutely necessary. Do you have any evidence that there is this massive inefficient level of worker?

workiskillingme · 03/02/2023 09:13

Absolutely
I've said time and time again we need to be more like France/Pakistan/India and start a bit of unrest because these shower of arseholes are not listening to how things are for real people

workiskillingme · 03/02/2023 09:15

gogohmm · 01/02/2023 21:48

No because pay rises need to be funded, some of us aren't getting any pay rise - I'd take the teachers pay in a heartbeat. I work with some of the most marginalised in society

Poor brainwashed sod
There's more than enough money for people to be paid properly without having to increase taxes even more

Ugh how patronising. Where does that money come from, though? Yes, all taxpayers.

I am not getting a pay rise.

I am paid less than:

Any nurse
Any teacher
Any civil servant
Any train driver
Any fireman

No, I cant just join a union, i did that 30 years ago, only to be told they wouldn't be representing me because i work in private practice. I've spent 30+ years applying for civil service jobs that I could do standing on my head but never even get an acknowledgement to an application, let alone an interview. It's like a closed shop.

Oh, and my workplace and private pensions will also be lower than any of those above.

007DoubleOSeven · 03/02/2023 23:12

The money is there. It's just currently funnelled away from the public and society to Tory mates.

Hups · 03/02/2023 23:16

It gets my vote 👍

Its not just about you though is it. Thank your lucky stars you arent living like many others right now.

It would entail a bunch of anorak-wearing lefties trying to inconvenience everyone in order to prove that their jobs are in fact completely dispensable as everyone else can just WFH and spend yet another day muddling along with DC at home (plenty of practice at this during lockdowns). Apart from the people who find that the hospital appointments they've been waiting for for aeons are cancelled, who will feel very pissed off and, for the most part, pissed off with the people who are on strike.

I am very strongly opposed to this shitty government, but Mick Lynch is a repellent and dangerous individual who is interested only in Mick Lynch.

I take it your all boxed off then and can heat your house. Good for you.

Mydogatemypurse · 04/02/2023 00:00

ivykaty44 · 02/02/2023 12:56

A year by striking, meanwhile Mich Lynch is paid £95k a year and doesn’t lose a penny while standing on his soapbox and taking the credit for people losing money.

you failed to mention that he give his pay for every strike day to the hardship fund
or that he was voted into his job and his salary is voted for all by the members

Yeah they pick and choose the 'facts' to justify their disgusting selfish opinions.

What do you even mean? Of course it's not just about me. Its about everyone who isn't in such an occupation, yet, as PPs say, are expected to suck it up when their long awaited hospital appointments are cancelled or they can't get there because their train isn't running and there's no alternative choice of service provider for them, despite having money taken out of each pay packet for the pleasure of supporting it.

Also, you haven't got the first clue about how I'm living. I know people in each of the occupations I mentioned. They all, without exception, have a far better standard of living than most other people I come into contact with. I'm not the one who should be thanking my lucky stars. If I'm not happy with my pay or conditions, I find a better job.

RafaistheKingofClay · 06/02/2023 17:18

They are getting better jobs. How is that going to help you get your hospital appointment quicker?
