Cold sores

Help! I think my 3yo has cold sores, she's been home unwell the last two days, general cold/flu like symptoms and just now I've seen a small blister and some bumps lining her lips. If it is this it seems like a big flare up and it's no wonder she's feeling crappy.

I don't know what to do! I've got no personal experience of cold sores, I know the basics but practically how do I stop it spreading? She's very affectionate, loves kisses and cuddles.

I'm also unreasonably angry! The only person I know who has it is FIL. He'd be devastated if it was him who passed it on. She'll have to live with this forever and I'm so upset for her!

Unless he's kissed her with active coldsores he can't spread it. Could be hand foot and mouth

Have you created 5 threads on this?

Has your daughter had chickenpox? It sounds like it could be shingles. My now adult son had it at 3 years old and his symptoms were pretty much the same. Coldsores themselves would not make her ill, but shingles would. The anger could be down to pain as it can be very painful. I would ring GP as she would need antivirals if its shingles.

I think there is a glitch. Lots of other posts are repeating too.

Why angry, upset and a potentially devastated FIL?

Cold sores are really common. I get them at least once every 2m (when stressed or run down a bit). Am starting to wonder if i should be a bit more worried than I am about them 🤣 (which is not in the slightest bit worried)

Practically - no kissing, don't share towels or cutlery etc unless washed, don't let her pick at it.

You can get compeed coldsore patches that cover them up that might help, think they are ok for 3 year olds

I've apparently created a million threads on this! I'm worried but I'm not crazy Confused

Thank you for all the advice. There's a tiny blister on her hand so looks like it is hf&m, just emailed preschool and cancelling weekend plans.

See the Dr. Although she may be too young for oral meds.
