Cold sores

Help! I think my 3yo has cold sores, she's been home unwell the last two days, general cold/flu like symptoms and just now I've seen a small blister and some bumps lining her lips. If it is this it seems like a big flare up and it's no wonder she's feeling crappy.

I don't know what to do! I've got no personal experience of cold sores, I know the basics but practically how do I stop it spreading? She's very affectionate, loves kisses and cuddles.

I'm also unreasonably angry! The only person I know who has it is FIL. He'd be devastated if it was him who passed it on. She'll have to live with this forever and I'm so upset for her!

Are you sure it's not hand foot and mouth? Has she got any anywhere else?

I sympathise, I get them they’re horrid.
Put ice on them to soothe, maybe look to get some Zovirax cream on stand by.
Apparently 2/3 of the population has the virus, so might not have come from him, you can be unsymptomatic and still pass it on.
I know l-lysine is supposed to be good, but I’m not sure if it’s age appropriate

I would advise keeping off nursery until they are fully scabbed over as they spread so easily at that age. My son caught a cold sore from another child at nursery (he has a chronic health condition) and it landed him in hospital for two weeks. Also very dangerous for young babies. I get them myself too and they are really nasty and can spread to eyes so make sure hands are constantly washed
