to be annoyed at neighbours talking loudly in their garden at 11pm?

they do this every weekend, and keep us awake. Last week they were still talking at 4am. It is loud enough that closing the window does not solve the problem (and in any event, in the current weather I don't want to close the window). We have a small baby, so earplugs are not an option. The same man started playing the guitar at 8am last Sunday morning and somebody else complained, so he stopped. But talking in his own garden surely is not something we can complain about? We are just unlucky that neither he nor his guests have been brought up to speak quietly (well, at the level that most people consider polite)?

Throw a bucket of water out of the window, then appologise and say you thought it was a cat wailing so it could get it's leg over.

SuiGeneris · 09/07/2010 23:26

Sadly there is a road between our bedroom and that garden...

Hose pipe.

Sui are you in my street????

Sodding students have gone home so some of the younger residents have taken it upon themselves to carry on where they left off. Grrr

burnthedummy · 10/07/2010 00:00

aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I know how you feel...my neighbours do the same....up till 11pm but it is every night....with their toddler screaming and shouting along with them too, right under my DDs window. I make a big show of slamminmg the windows shut.....you have my sympathies

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/07/2010 00:04

Well, 11.00pm isn't really that late, so I would say YABU to be annoyed.

I think people don't realise how much sound carries at night though, so I can appreciate that it's annoying for you, and if they're still going on at 4.00am that's a different matter.

You have every right to complain if it's going on till that time in the morning, although I'm not sure what the 'official' channels would be for this - not sure if environmental health/the council would deal with this.

StuckInTheMiddleWithYou · 10/07/2010 00:46

Crazy idea I know, but you could knock on their door and talk to them about it...

LynetteScavo · 10/07/2010 01:30

I want to be able to stay up all night talking, and then play guitar at 8am. [envy}

Indaba · 10/07/2010 11:29

It'll be raining soon so problem will go away.

But why not chat to them nicely and work out a compromise?

mintyfresh · 10/07/2010 12:10

YANBU - I know the weather is nice but 4am is so inconsiderate!! I think you need to go and speak to them although a bit awkward..

We have the same problem. I'm not really that bothered as can't hear them with window shut but it would be nice to be able to open the windows at night in this heat!!

choufleur · 10/07/2010 12:53

YANBU. Have you mentioned it to them though. If it persists call environmental health. I had really loud neighbours from hell in our last house and I complain now, possibly too early on, but we moved because of them and I just can't stand it any more.

LadyCad · 10/07/2010 12:58

Just say "SHHHHHHHHHH" very loudly.

Or just bellow "can you keep the noise down please? thankyou!"

Mckmck123 · 01/09/2019 13:04

I have the same problem even though I live in a detached house they have a gazebo attached to the fence so not far from our bedroom window
Have asked them so many times to keep the noise down and explained they are keeping us awake but they carry on
I am feeling so angry

Mckmck123 · 01/09/2019 13:06

Also whether it’s cold or raining they have heaters

murasaki · 01/09/2019 13:10

Our neighbours do this - including talking loudly at 7 am on a Sunday. Sadly they have also knocked up a plastic and wood smoking cover, so I dont think it is going to stop, even in winter. I hate them.

dollydaydream114 · 01/09/2019 13:15

If the OP’s neighbours still haven’t stopped talking and gone indoors in the NINE FUCKING YEARS since this thread was started, then yes, that’s quite unreasonable. Otherwise, I’d imagine she’s over it by now. Jeez.

Mckmck123 · 01/09/2019 14:28

Dollydaydream114. Unless you’d living next door to neighbours like us you have no idea how fucking stressful and annoying it is
