to expect more than 1 available date to book a track day without incurring extra costs?

I bought a driving experience for DP from a popular website. I got a voucher to book the day directly with another company.

I looked at the dates they did and could do most of them as we have both saved leave from work. Contacted said company to book at the track we wanted and they said we could either do the track day on Sun 21 NOVEMBER!!! or pay extra for a sat or for an upgrade as there are no other dates available.

funnily enough the extra costs for an upgrade or a sat booking is the pre sale cost!

AIBU to expect more than 1 available date (esp as the vouchers are still on sale at the price I paid)

Not unreasonable to expect there to be more than just one date available... though vouchers do often have small print conditions so I'm not that surprised.

Is trading standards worth a call, to check what your consumer rights are in such a case?

heverhoney1 · 09/07/2010 23:07

am in two minds about trading standards. I think technically they can get around it by saying that other dates may be available at other venues with other operators. However there were 2 reasons I chose this voucher. All of the other tracks are in excess of 100 miles away and the discount made it directly comparable with others that had tracks some way away.

If I knew we would have to travel I would have gone with a better deal that was available in Warwickshire. Even with the discount this one was slightly more expensive than the warickshire one but I thought it would work out cheaper if we didnt have to pay hotel costs!

I am a bit gutted really. We had our first child last year 3 weeks before DP 30th. I had a bit of a tough time during the birth and was not really up to celebrating with him. So this year I go WAAAYYYY over our normal budget to make up for it and got him the driving experience as a special gift from our daughter. Now its screwed up and I feel awful about it.

Does your DP really care that much when he does the driving experience? Sure November is a way off but it is a date available.

heverhoney1 · 09/07/2010 23:35

Its one of 3 weeks this year we cant do- the last week of October and the last 2 weeks of November.

I got fleeced on this once. We ended up running out of time to use it at all.

will press ahead with my refund request then. The Warwickshire company have provided me a list of times and dates- all of which are weekends at no extra cost. All made available PRIOR to making any booking!!!!
