to think teachers/TAs shouldn't smoke right outside school gates?

Title says it all, really. It happens at my school, there are about 5 of them out there every break and lunchtime and I feel it gives a very bad impression of the school. They cannot be seen by pupils btw
as pupils are 'locked in' from 8.45.

As a teacher I find it inappropriate, as a parent I know it would put me off if I saw it happening at a school I was considering for the dc.

I think YABU, although maybe they should have a little tent like thing so nobody can see them. What sort of bad impression does it give? I don't know how many percent of people smoke, but it gives the impression or even proves that they are part of that percentage.

YANBU.

If it's good enough for the parents to have a puff and stub it at the gates then why not the teachers?

Teaching is also about modelling correct behaviour. I think it shows a lack of professionalism. I am a teacher BTW and I do sometimes smoke. But you say the children cannotsee them...? Far worse, to me, is the passive smoking by the children if the staff are then breathing the fumes over the children when they return to class. Cannot remember the statistics now but I think the breath remains toxic for the next hour or something.
