If I think kids should not smoke

Our house is a the end of a street backing onto fields and the local youths have taken to hanging out there and smoking.
But now the older ones are getting the younger kids in the familly to smoke (aged 12 and 14) and you can tell their parents don't know they are doing it as they come all the way into my street to do it and they are always looking around furtively.
I know the youngest two, but their mum and gran are 40+ a day smokers.
Is it worth me telling the mum as I don't think she could even smell the smoke on them anyway?
My mum was a 40+ smoker and still is, I tried smoking once but never again.
I just fell sorry that they feel that they need to do it.
I'm sure one of them is doing weed though, so maybe I'll mention that, but then I don't want broken windows

Kids furtively smoking is as old as the hills and a heavy-smoking family isn't going to be all that surprised, I don't think. Well, not surprised enough to do anything. If the cigarette butts look like they might set something alight in this dry weather you could try asking them to clear off.... Otherwise, least said, soonest mended

The mum will know but will probably not care. It is for them to deal with.

Might be worth mentioning the drug use but you would have to be sure.

Alouiseg · 08/07/2010 18:57

Cal, the police and tell them that drugs are being taken in that area.

They might just put enough fear into the kids that they find somewhere else to commit a slow suicide.

Actually, my neighbour is a policewoman, she has her eyes on them (off duty), so I'll let her sort out the drug bit.

But it's just so sad really, that in this day and age kids are still getting hooked

How I wish you'd been around when I took it up. 12 years old when I started and 46 now. SC I blame you (that's her initials by the way).
I don't think you can realistically do anything I'm sorry to say. I would questin how children that young get the cash to buy fags, they are super expensive in the UK.

Ripeberry · 09/07/2010 00:35

I think they pinch them from the parents, no way they could be buying them as we are a small village.

To be blunt i dont see how it is any of your buisness, they're not on your land, and they're not your kids.

running to their parents wont do you any favours and if its a small village then they will get caught out sooner rather than later.

Mumcentreplus · 09/07/2010 01:02

I would say something..but that's because I'm a nosy interfering ole bitch....something like..'You lot are too young to smoke!'...'It will stunt your growth'..or some other bollocks..wouldn't feel right if i didn't comment..
