I am having a bad day.

Im fed up of the following:

  1. People leaving the pub at night shouting and waking up my baby. The pub is near house is it too much to ask that people think that they should not shout as there may be children asleep in the houses?

  2. those stupid recorded phone calls offering debt advice? They call in the afternoon and wake my baby and there isn't a real person on the other end I can shout at for waking my baby up.

  3. people who shout at their dogs to be quiet when it barks. Not only is the dog waking up the baby, but so is the person shouting. If they want quiet why are they shouting?

  4. people who drive at 40mph in a 60 zone but upon entering a 30mph area they continue to drive at 40mph. Why is speeding in a built up area with more potential hazards ok when it clearly isn't safe to go fast on a more open road?

  5. people who park on the pavement blocking it so you have to go on the road with your pushchair to get past.

  6. people who point to their wrist when asking the time as if I wouldn't know where my watch is.

OK rant over.

Anyone want to add anything else?

people who walk smack bang in the MIDDLE of the pavement with their massive buggies. walk near to the wall so your child isnt near the road and that so i can walk past without fear of being run over by both your buggy and a car.

people who make no effort whatsoever to get out of the way. i am gobsmacked at how many people nowadays just keep walking and expect the other person to move, i was always brought up to stand aside, but apparently only about 10 percent of people where i live have any manners.
[those who move aside: teenage boys, geeky men, people who are in work uniform, younger mums, ocassionally a family with kids]
[people who couldnt be arsed: teenage girls, the elderly, most women between 30-50, 'city' types]

the thankfully few mothers who drive big obnoxious cars, park incredibly badly and move way too fast in the small confusing road outside the school in the next street from me. there are some lovely mums who park in our street [which noone minds as we have plenty of space] and the walking bus always makes me smile the kids are so cute!

oh and we have a zebra crossing right outside the big posh private school in our area and only 9/10 cars ever stop. the big posh cars always have to do a screech to a halt when all the cheeky schoolkids from the local state school step out, then v-e-e-e-e-r-r-r-y-y-y slowly walk across.
and then they watch me and DH do it too.
its a fucking crossing. you have to stop. i WILL make you wait!

and...breathe.

baby earmuffs?

Saladbomb · 05/07/2010 23:14

loving this thread, would anyone like some custard with their grumble?

people who drive in the middle lane of the motor way when there's no one in the inside lane (i know its obvious but its sooo annoying)

conversely, people who undertake on the motorway.

people who flash their head lights in stead of dipping to say thanks if you give way to them (yes thanks very much what a really nice way of thanking me I AM NOW BLIND)

couples or groups of people (often with buggys) who stop right outside the door of the bank/shop/cafe, and block the door while they decide which way to go/put their brolly up/light a fag while i am trying to exit.

people who ring up and ask to speak to Mrs "My maidenname" who are obviously based in india and tell me there name is James, despite the fact i have been registered with the TPS for years. (then put the phone down when i inform them so)

my inability to stop using brackets (at every given opportunity)

Elderly men and women who come over when DD is having a tantrum and try to talk her out of it... You are not helping!! Go away!!

Yes to all the driving ones!

Parents who don't supervise their children and let them run wild at parks/soft play/the zoo etc. Just because it is meant for children, doesn't mean you can let them off the reins to terrorise smaller ones! Get off your backsides and sort them out!

Older generation moaning about how Mum's these days have it all and don't know they are born.... 'blah blah blah.... You think you know everything..... blah blah blah...... we did it like this and never did you any harm.....' Especially the woman in the post office who was trying to convince me to give 7 week old DS some baby rice as he was 'obviously starving'. Whatever you say, Dear!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! Feels good to get that off my chest!!!

chixinthestix · 06/07/2010 00:00

The workers who have been building a new pylon in the field behind our garden who have been blaring music so loudly for the last 2 weeks you can hear it in the house with all the windows shut. If I wanted to be at a music festival I would have gone to Glastonbury and chosen to listen to something decent and not your tasteless 80s power ballad selection.

Oh yeah and people who make me back my van miles down a narrow country lane becasue they are incapable of reversing a couple of feet into the passing place behind them.

Grrrrr.....and relax...that's better!

Mumcentreplus · 06/07/2010 00:01

people who moan when the weathers good..erm enjoy!

People with bad hair...

People who wear inappropriate clothing..although funny can sometimes be quite scary..

people who dont wear deodorant/brush their teeth/wash in general..it stinks!

People who drive everywhere and have a heart attack when their car is off the road..

Livingbytheriver · 06/07/2010 00:07

People who can see you are looking at the shelf deciding what to buy but decide to wander between you and the shelf anyway, even thought you have left enough room on purpose so there is space for them to walk BEHIND you.

People who don't pick their dog shit up and leave big stinking piles of turd on a very obvious school run route!!!!

Utility companies who assure you on 3 separate occasions that your payment will leave your account on a specific date (when there will be money in the account) but take it 2 weeks early instead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate BT soooooooooo much that I think I will just pay my exit fee and leave them early.

People who drive up MY arse when I am myself following a slow moving car...you expect me to drive faster HOW exactly??

People who can't reverse park on their mirrors...then expect me to sit and wait while they faff about looking over one shoulder then the next while I sit in the car silently screaming USE YOUR F*ING MIRRORS

Rant over, I now feel much better, thank you.

booyhoo · 06/07/2010 00:14

people who 'beep be beep beep beeeeep' when arriving at my neighbours house at 11.30pm even though they are getting out of the car anyway and going up to the door to knock for neighbour anyway- this wakes me and my baby.

MichaelaS · 06/07/2010 01:27

the deliverance website who refused our custom at 10.57pm tonight when they claim to shut at 11pm for last delivery at 11.30pm. boo. lucky the curry house was still open.

valleyqueen · 06/07/2010 08:03

People who park on zig zag lines at school especially mine as we are probably one of the few schools in the country that has free use of a car park about 2 mins walk away.

waitingforbedtime · 06/07/2010 08:19

Will be back later to add my gripes but Oh GOD that Catherine Tate sketch is soooooooo close to the bone

I remember driving ds to sleep once and when he eventually dropped off I stopped the car in a layby and someone else had teh sheer audacity to park next to me and get out and open and close slam their car doors and talk at a normal level shout incessantly! I was enraged!!

Also, my sister once bit the head off a man she knew because he came to talk to her when he saw her sitting in the car at the beach (her ds was sleeping in the back) - that imo was worse because a/ she said something and b/her kid slept 14 hrs at night every night. Ds slept 6 if we were lucky

waitingforbedtime · 06/07/2010 08:19

ugh ignore the messed up strikeouts!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 06/07/2010 08:20

All (or at least most of those) annoy me, currently my tooth itcher is young people with mobile phones that play songs. Why? I don't want to hear it, put some fucking earphones in.

hippopo · 06/07/2010 08:27

My blood pressure is rising just reading this list so have to stop as am almost 40 weeks pregnant

If I was PM I would make spitting in public illegal, especially when people make that really horrid noise at back of throat. It makes me want to vomit and so unhygenic!

loopyloo82 · 06/07/2010 08:29

Love the Catherine Tate sketch! A bit close to the bone! I remember when dd was small and I'd be walking around the town for ages to get her to go to sleep, somebody would smile at us and say 'hello' and I'd smile sweetly back and walk away in a rage because they'd woken her up!

hippopo · 06/07/2010 08:33

When I was little (over 30 years ago!) my mum used to run out of house and shout at the ice cream van who would wake me up when I was having a nap!!

scrappydappydoo · 06/07/2010 08:35

Irresponsible people on motorbikes - who think that just because they are on a bike they can rev it loudly at 6am, overtake you at twice the speed limit on a single carriageway, pull out in front of you suddenly giving you a mini heart attack, and most annoying of all when you are stuck in traffic they squeeze their way past almost scraping your car.

Irresponsible dog owners who don't clean up after their dog, who let their dog run up to my dds and sniff and jump up on them saying 'don't worry he's very friendly' - well my dd who is terrified of dogs and is screaming and climbing up my leg disagrees.

I could go on but those are things that are annoying me at the moment...

livethedream · 06/07/2010 08:36

How about people who decided to stop right in front of the shop doorway blocking your exit whilst they decide to park their double buggy sideways and rearrange their shopping for ten minutes? (Happened yesterday - was very irked!)

Lucy85 · 06/07/2010 09:56

My next door neighbours.

WTF do they keep staring at us for? We're NOT interesting!!!!!!

clpsmum · 06/07/2010 10:03

people who watch you struggling to get the door of a shop open to allow your toddler in before trying to manouvre the pram in and they just stand there and watch or whats worse walk in the door in front of you and let it swing shut, do people have no manners???? this drives me mad and happens to me most days. Also people who don't bother to stop at zebra crossing.

haoshiji · 06/07/2010 10:05

"Have you registered with telephone preference service. I found that really helped with the phone calls.

www.callpreventionregistry.co.uk/?gclid=CKiz1_qF1aICFR4B4wodQFFSwg

Or if you're really desperate you can get your phone company to block all calls from withheld numbers. "

Bah just fille din the reg forms for that site and now I get the small print....

CPR have managed to stop nuisance
phone calls - well worth the small fee they charge.

Bah! Not a free service. So now I will get a salesman call me about stopping the calls. Meh.

mommmmyof2 · 06/07/2010 10:08

people who wake my children up annoy me, neighbours who no you have children but love to stand outside at night and talk to each other and laugh so loud the people on the other street could hear them!
Also people who cold call, knock on your door, but you can't do anything as you are just about to put your baby down...so the person at the door continues to knock then press the door bell! now that does annoy me.
I also get annoyed when cars decide to park half on road and pathment but decide to do it as your walking on the pathment and nearly knock you down, then look at you as if to say 'you should not be there'
But as for the looking at your wrist when asking the time i think that is mostly a reaction

Mumcentreplus · 06/07/2010 10:15

'WTF do they keep staring at us for? We're NOT interesting!!!!!!'

its quite obvious...you are all extremely beautiful and they are mesmerised

TheFruitWhisperer · 06/07/2010 10:22

People that get in a lift and dont press any buttons, then look bemused when the lift is not at their floor.

BuzzingNoise · 06/07/2010 10:24

People who moan about their babies/children being woken up by others living a normal life

becstarlitsea · 06/07/2010 10:36

Ah yes, many of these ring a bell. Also:

people who comment 'what a shame/don't you want another one/etc' about DS being an only child when even a second's thought would tell them that there are many possible reasons for this, only one possibility being that we chose the situation (which would also be none of their beeswax), and all the other reasons are likely to involve heartbreak which I won't tell them about because they are a Total Stranger. But thanks for prodding that bruise anyway, Mrs Total Stranger. Grrrrr.

mothers with very fat children telling them that they must finish all of their McDonalds or they won't get an icecream when the van comes (in park yesterday...) and then telling them to stop running around so much in the park in case they hurt themselves.

the other tenants in my building who seem to have decided that since I work from home when DS is at school that I am their building's concierge, and tell all delivery men to leave their parcels with me, without asking me in advance whether that's okay, or thanking me when I deliver their parcels to them in the evenings (just at the time when I'm also trying to cook tea and get DS into the bath - leave it later and DS is in bed and of course I can't go out delivering parcels and leave him in flat alone so it's all bloody inconvenient). And it means means my doorbell rings 15 times a day when I'm trying to work. And when I tell delivery men 'No, I'm not coming down to accept Flat 12's iphone, I'm on a call with a client' they say 'But the delivery notes say that Flat XX will accept it'. Oh do they now... And note that my neighbours haven't even bothered to learn my name, they just think of me as Flat XX aka Muggins.

ooh, I feel better now...
