To have considered doing this to dp?

Every weekday morning dp leaves the butter out on the side, I get up the dog has got the butter I throw the butter away buy a new one and have a argument with dp he promises to put the butter away and I get up the next morning to discover the dog eating the brand new butter.

Well this morning I am fed up and I considered scraping the top later of the butter and putting it back in the fridge and buying a separate butter for me and the dc and hiding it , do you realise this costs about £7.00 a week .

I didn't do it I threw the butter in the bin and bought a new one grrrrr .

I don't make dp sandwiches because he likes them fresh in the mornings .

I am not happy and dp will say chill out it is just a tub of butter grrrrr! .

Why bother scraping - if it still has the teeth marks in it might press the point home a bit more....

Can't be doing the dog much good either!

I'd get the dog to lick his freshly made sandwiches before I lovingly wrap them in cling film. Don't buy more butter - get him to do it. Don't make dp's sandwiches - get him to do it. If he complains tell him to chill out! Unless you make life uncomfortable for him, he won't change!

Your poor dog

HouseofCrazy · 05/07/2010 13:44

Does he know you are buying a new one every day??

diddl · 05/07/2010 13:47

Yes, I´d hide a butter for yourself & the children & let your husband share his with the dog.

PeasPlease · 05/07/2010 13:47

Buy spread in a tub?

ShirleyKnot · 05/07/2010 13:53

The dog must be shitting through the eye of a needle

slushy · 05/07/2010 13:56

The spread is in a tub. My dp is very intelligent and v forgetful it is not him being nasty he just forgets He also falls over at least 5 times a day.

He knows I am buying it, I don't make his sandwiches. The dog does not even eat it he just gives it one lick decides he does not like it and then leaves it alone. GRRRR!

No the dog is unharmed by this because he does not like butter just likes playing with it.

Your DP seems like a selfish and arrogant prat. I would definitely let him have the 'dog butter' and, if he doesn't notice no-one gets hurt. If he does, then he won't have any comeback and may learn a lesson.

slushy · 05/07/2010 13:58

Peasplease Sorry it is spread in a tub (not butter), the dog takes the lid off.

thumbwitch · 05/07/2010 13:59

I'd just label it "DP's butter" and make sure yours and the DCs is well out of sight. Then he can share saliva with the dog and you don't have to worry about it or spend so much money and anxiety on it.

How dim is your dog that he has to try it every day??!

slushy · 05/07/2010 14:00

He genuinely is not doing it deliberately, I know this because I bought him some really expensive ham and loads of lovely pack lunch things because he gave up smoking and he left it on the side went to the toilet came back out to the dog having his entire lunch .

Sorry to say I was PSML .

He falls over 5 times a day?
I would suggest he gets to the Dr - maybe the forgetfullness and falling over are linked?

skidoodly · 05/07/2010 14:02

YANBU at all to just put the dog butter back in the fridge for your DP and have separate proper butter for the people who can treat it with the respect it deserves

Seriously, don't even scrape it. You've had the conversation enough times.

stop buying new butter!!!!! just leave it there on the counter where he left it and get yourself a separate butter and hide it. make sure he doesn't know about it or he will use that and leave it out too.

seriously, the only way he will learn is to experience the consequences of his actions.

he leaves butter out, he has doggy spittle butter the next day.

jenroy29 · 05/07/2010 14:04

practical solution; buy a few little plastic tubs and put portions of butter in to each tub then not so much butter will be left out.

Blu do you really think it could be a problem? I know he has always been clumsy and forgetful you know breaking things he only touches something and it breaks. I will feel scummy if there is something wrong .

Avrilheytch my dog is a puppy and he does not go on the counter unless we are out and food is on the side, he is being trained but sadly it is slow work.

Present him with an itemised bill each week, he'll soon get the message

clpsmum · 05/07/2010 14:08

could you not just stick a note on top of the tub saying put me back in the fridge if the dog keeps eating me he will die!!! would that scare him into getting the message? or shut the dorr so the dog can't get in the room??
i am very sly and would buy a new butter but wash out the empty tub and fill it with something horrible such as dog food so tomorrow morning when he came to do his sandwiches he would get a shock!
