To have considered doing this to dp?

Every weekday morning dp leaves the butter out on the side, I get up the dog has got the butter I throw the butter away buy a new one and have a argument with dp he promises to put the butter away and I get up the next morning to discover the dog eating the brand new butter.

Well this morning I am fed up and I considered scraping the top later of the butter and putting it back in the fridge and buying a separate butter for me and the dc and hiding it , do you realise this costs about £7.00 a week .

I didn't do it I threw the butter in the bin and bought a new one grrrrr .

I don't make dp sandwiches because he likes them fresh in the mornings .

I am not happy and dp will say chill out it is just a tub of butter grrrrr! .

Slushy, let us know what works.

Been struggling with something like this for two years with my DP.

He never never does the screwtop up on anything with the result that anything that gets knocked over spills. Or if you pick something up by the lid, it crashed to the floor and smashes. DP seems intelligent but just cannot get past this. It drives me crazy.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 05/07/2010 14:09

I think I'd be urging him to go to the doctor about his coordination problems and forgetfullness (and I'd have his fidophlegm butter and hers nice butter)

AnyFucker · 05/07/2010 14:09

let him share the butter with the dog...you get your own

stop kissing him though

slushy · 05/07/2010 14:18

Kathyjelly when I met him I found it endearing (we soon learn) He is like one of those scientists who would forget to eat for days if I didn't remind him. Yet if he is looking after dc he is never clumsy or forgetful.

I will try clpsmum's suggestion though I will say 'put me away or the dog will eat me' as he knows the dog does not eat the spread just plays with it.

Failing that I will separate portions like jenroy said.

But joking aside we didn't realise it could be that he needs to see a doctor I will make a appointment for him today.

Anyfucker If he gets all clear and none of the above works I will definitely do his and her spread

oh god, i so needed a laugh today. This is brilliant.

OP i am exactly like your H. I leave butter out, milk out. i fall over ALL the time. I live mostly inside my head and only venture out into the real world occasionally.

It drives my poor long suffering husband insane.

slushy · 05/07/2010 14:21

Thesugarplumfairy Why do you forget? dp is a writer and I know his head is always in his new book so I think that is the problem. Most of the time I can see the funny side but sometimes it just gets too much for me .

put seven tubs in your fridge, stacked on top of eachotther

use a permanent marker to label them, clearly
MONDAY
TUESDAY
WEDNESDAY
THURSDAY
FRIDAY
SATURDAY
SUNDAY

he'll pause for thought....

slushy · 05/07/2010 14:25

Stubbornhubby brilliant, I think he would just about get the message .

stubborn- monkey chuckling at that.

Slushy, maybe dh needs heel inserts. Apparently my dh used to fall over lots, his heel would slip. The inserts helped. We told a friend about them and they worked for her too. (something to do with poor foot arch muscle?)

Mowgli1970 · 05/07/2010 14:35

If he is falling over 5 times a day and is that forgetful I would get him to a gp pronto. The butter would be the least of my worries. He could have a medical condition which needs treatment. If he's falling over, is it because he's dizzy and losing his balance, or does he trip over stuff. Sorry, but I think the op was a bit misleading and I wouldn't have posted my first comment if I'd known about the other stuff.

slushy · 05/07/2010 14:44

Mowgli1970 I was not intending to mislead (I had no idea it could be medical I am worried about this and will make a appointment) his mum says he has always done it certainly as long as I have known him for. He walks around and he is thinking about his book instead of looking where he is going and trips over stuff. He is definitely not dizzy, I am anemic so I and he would be aware if it was that and the reason I never thought it was medical is because if he is holding the dc he does not fall.

He just seems to go into his own world I can tell when he is doing it because his eyes glaze over and I could tell him I am off upstairs with a romping rabbit would he like to join me and he just won't answer because he is immersed in his own thoughts. I have seen first hand that this is what happens when he forgets or falls. I ask what he was thinking about and he says or my book so I have always assumed it was because he was concentrating on that I have never seen him fall or forget without the glazed look in his eyes.

Did I read correctly - your dog can take the lid of the spread? Now, I feel your annoyance with this whole situation, but that is a clever dog!

slushy · 05/07/2010 14:46

Yep dog takes the lid off he can't be that smart though because he does not like the butter but has a go every day to make sure.

OP posts:
kreecherlivesupstairs · 05/07/2010 15:02

I'm not being super critical here, but if your DH is writing a book, surely he works from home and can make the sarnie the instant he fancies it.

slushy · 05/07/2010 15:05

He works full time in his office and does the book at home because he has not gotten it published yet. So it gives no income. At the moment it is more like a hobby it is his dream and he devotes a lot of time to it but it does not pay the bills.

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 05/07/2010 15:05

So your DH and your dog are both clever and stupid at the same time?

occyelf · 05/07/2010 15:07

try putting the tub inside a ceramic butter dish with lid, this may at least help to control the dogs behaviour if not the dh's

slushy · 05/07/2010 15:17

I will give it a try thanks occyelf.

TrillianAstra My dp is not stupid I find that quite insulting he is forgetful and clumsy yes but that does not make him stupid.

I never said the dog was smart another poster did, and another poster also said the dog was stupid, I said the dog can't be that smart if he tries the spread everyday.

TheSugarPlumFairy · 05/07/2010 15:25

slushy i forget because my head is in a whole other place and i am operating in the real world on remote control. I make my breakfast but i leave the cereal and the milk out because i am thinking about something i am going to do at work today or planning something or another.
I trip walking to the station of a morning because i am not looking at the footpath in front on me because I am remembering something cute DD did or something similar.

it is kind of like watching TV. When i am watching a program i am really into, or reading a book that has me hooked, i am completely into it. The house could burn down around me and i wouldn't notice. i inhabit the thought/TV show/book almost exclusively. While i am engrossed everything else i do i am doing by rote.

H says he found it endearing in me as well at first. Now he is convinced it is a conspiracy to drive him completely nuts. Hope that helps you understand your H and i hope your dogs cholestrol levels are ok!

Psammead · 05/07/2010 15:31

Definitely write a note on the top of the butter, just saying 'now put me away' or something.

slushy · 05/07/2010 15:32

Thanks TheSugarPlumFairy What you described is similar to dp I do know why he does it but sometimes it is hard to remember. Have you been to a doctor as some of the ladies seem to think is needed for my DP, I am only asking because I am worried now about DP.

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 05/07/2010 15:35

Ok chill out, massive overreaction, they're both clever (enough to write a book, or to get the lid off the spread) but forgetful (enough to leave the spread out every day, or to forget that he doesn't like spread).

slushy · 05/07/2010 15:38

Ok TrillianAstra probably jumped to quickly just worried now at the thought that dp may have something medically wrong so feeling a bit jumpy (also not in a good mood because I had to buy spread)

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 05/07/2010 16:14

Having to buy spread is at least a good excuse to go to the shop and buy something nice as well

slushy · 05/07/2010 16:18

I may get one of those nice mail order lunches (it will probably be cheaper than a tub of butter daily) for me and the dc and leave the hairy butter exactly where I find it .
