to make my baby wear babygro's all the time?

Ds2 is my 3rd child. He is now 3 months old. He wears baby gros all the time, day and night...
Some people have commented on it and I noticed other people dressing their babies in fully co-ordinnated outfits including matching shoes from birth.
I'm not really bothered, I have done all the cute outfits with the first 2 and decided he is more comfortable and it's a lot more practical for me to keep him in babygros probably for the next month or so...
AIBU or should I get a grip???

YANBU.Comfortable for him plus he's a baby- no need for anything else.

nikki1978 · 04/07/2010 14:38

I did this too with both my children. People always said "why is your baby wearing Pajamas during the day?". Very annoying

They were comfy and it cost me a lot less. I would probably use playsuit type things in this weather though so the legs are arms get some air

I think proper clothes came in at about 5 months old - maybe 4....

humptyismarriedtoanumpty · 04/07/2010 14:39

thank christ winnybella, it was a decision I made to keep him dressed in babygros but was beginning to question my own sanity after so many comments...
Round here, baby dressing seems to be big business, loads of lace and frills and you have to get a little lace edged pillow with the name and date of birth embroidered on it to hang off the pram... I don't have any of it, not my thing...

YANBU. Clothes for babies should be what is most comfortable for them. When I see these co-ordinated, fussy outfits I can't see how they would benefit the baby at all.

nagoo · 04/07/2010 14:39

I didn't really put my DS in 'proper' clothes either. I got some really cute babygros and shortie playsuit things and that was that.

humptyismarriedtoanumpty · 04/07/2010 14:40

thanks nikki, that's what i thought...

Sorry to be so pfb about it, very very tired and fed up of the comments!

YANBU, why would you want to dress them up, they are tiny at that age. I am wondering about the lace edged pillow thing now.

moaningminniewhingesagain · 04/07/2010 14:41

DS was regularly in babygros day and night til at least 6m unless a special occasion, I got quite a few compliments on how nice it was to see a baby, looking like a baby, and not in jeans etc.

PFB was in outfits much earlier of course, novelty had worn off by the time DS came along

humptyismarriedtoanumpty · 04/07/2010 14:42

What about it kreecher?

Clothes for very young babies are more about the parents than the baby. I count myself in that, as have bought some totally unnecessary outfits for both mine (one still not even born!). But only a minimal number, as they're far more comfy in babgros when they're too small to even move around.

LouAnnVanHouten · 04/07/2010 14:42

Mine has only just started wearing clothes and he is 17 months. Hardly anyone has said anything but he is youthful looking (could pass for 10 months). I feel a bit daft about forcing the older dcs into outfits so young. When I had ds1 the mw (so within the first 10 days) said something about 'not minding' him still being in his pjs. I really took it to heart at the time (hormonal).

YANBU, anyone with any sense keeps young babies in comfy, easy to change clothes. far nicer for them. Agree that I would be using those vest type things with poppers underneath, or maybe just a t shirt and nappy in hot weather though.

passionberry · 04/07/2010 14:44

DD is in babygrows most of the time - i think newborns look uncomfortable in mini outfits. Much nicer to see a little baby in a nice white sleepsuit imo.

saltyseadog · 04/07/2010 14:46

YANBU. I've only started 'dressing' ds, who is 3.5 months - and that's because I got sick of all of the comments about wearing PJs in the day tbh. I think dressing small dcs in outfits smacks of trying too hard. I still revert to gros when I can't be bothered to co-ordinate his clothes for the day .

Meglet · 04/07/2010 14:47

yanbu. I put DS in 'outfits' from about 2 months old. I had more time in those days...

But DD was in sleepy-suits and / or soft dungarees all the time until about 7 months old.

darcymum · 04/07/2010 14:48

I don't know when babies stopped wearing babygros all this time and started wearing 'real' clothes anyway. I think we were all in babygros when we wear little.

I think its all tied up with our materialistic lifestyle these days. Good for you dressing him in them, after all if you dressed him in little outfits all the time who's benefit would it be for?

TartyMcFarty · 04/07/2010 14:48

at LAVH's 17mo looking 'youthful'!

I noticed this when DD was about 2 months old. Se always seemed to be the only one in babygros. At 4mths I usually dress her in jersy-type comfy trousers and a vest or a shortie playsuit. The only outfits she wears are the ones I've been given, and I'll occasionally put her in a dress because it's cooler for her.

humptyismarriedtoanumpty · 04/07/2010 14:49

meglet was thinking he might progress to soft dungarees in the next couple of months...

salty not a slattern, anyone with a baby would be greatful for a few extra minutes in bed and throw on a babygro rather than worry about ironing co-ordinating shirts and ties for a newborn

YANBU. I had DS in babygros 90% of the time when he was that age - I think he was about 6mo when I realised that he did actually look as though he was wearing pyjamas in the daytime (hadn't seemed like that before) and started to put him in other stuff.

They used to do "shorty" babygros with poppers all up the front - I had several of those and they were great for warm weather - but suddenly everyone stopped doing them (except M&S and I expect they've stopped them now too).

DuelingFanjo · 04/07/2010 14:51

YANBU I am looking forward the outfits I might get given and might have to dress my baby in once just to show the people who bought them it's going to be Babygrows all the way for me.

champagnesupernova · 04/07/2010 14:55

I didn't put my DS (PFB) in outfits (except for special occasions) until he was 9mo
THink they look cute in little babygros
Kept away from any that said "sleepy little bear" or whatever in the daytime but made life a lot easier, albeit I did get blardy sick of doing up poppers.

coffeefestival · 04/07/2010 14:55

This sort of thing is soft and comfortable-looking.

humptyismarriedtoanumpty · 04/07/2010 14:58

thanks coffee have a couple of similar ones, not much use for it here in bonny scotland tho!!

YADNBU. Most definitely not. I was using babygros indoors and outside until past 9 months.
