Ds2 is my 3rd child. He is now 3 months old. He wears baby gros all the time, day and night...
Some people have commented on it and I noticed other people dressing their babies in fully co-ordinnated outfits including matching shoes from birth.
I'm not really bothered, I have done all the cute outfits with the first 2 and decided he is more comfortable and it's a lot more practical for me to keep him in babygros probably for the next month or so...
AIBU or should I get a grip???

YANBU, my DD is almost 4 months now and I've just started putting her in more "outfitty" clothes, and only really because people bought her nice summery things and I don't want to not use them. In this hot weather I just have her in vests most of the time. Cute as they may be, outfits are a PITA, and they're only going to get dribbled/puked/pooed on anyway.

when dd was born she was too small to fit even newborn clothes, so none of the things we were given fitted her. dh went to tesco & bought multi packs of plain white babygros & she stayed in them til she got big enough for clothes.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/07/2010 15:59

To clarify, I was wondering why anybody would want a little cushion with lace and embroidery to hang off a pram?

sunny2010 · 04/07/2010 16:02

I put my daughter in baby grows all the time until she was about 10 months. I dont think little babies should wear shoes as I think it is bad for their feet so when she started nursery I always sent her in baby grows as they had the feet bits on them.

I didnt really care what other peoples opinions were on it and I did get some people saying are they in pjyamas etc. I think its better being in nice comfy babygrows than restrictive jeans and shoes when they are that small. Its also expensive and they grow out of them in 5 seconds.

If someone judges a little baby on the clothes they are wearing I think they are quite materialistic imo.

Shineon I've read your post about half a dozen times and still have no idea what you're talking about . Am I a bit thick or is it some kind of private joke?

secunda · 04/07/2010 16:11

Seriously, my LO is 18months and STILL goes out in a babygro sometimes(not in the recent heatwave mind!), people often ask if he's in his jammies, I don't care! He's comfy!!

MrsCosmopolite · 04/07/2010 16:41

YANBU, I have 4 DCs and they all spent their babyhood in either a babygro or a romper, in fact, for several days last week my youngest (9 months) was just in his nappy because it was darn hot.

Baby =/= dressing up doll.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 04/07/2010 16:42

YANBU at all.
DS2 is 11 days old and like ds1 he will be in babygros ,rompers (like the ones coffee linked to) and the playsuit type things like babygros but footless, for as long as possible.

I was always and am still complimented on my baby looking like a baby in soft comfortable all in one suits and cardigans.
Far more comfotable and far cuter I think.

We have been given a couple of outfits in 0-3 months with jeans etc and he will wear them if we are going somewhere because someone was nice enough to buy them for us but i'll be babygros most of the way here.

Indaba · 04/07/2010 17:17

Am with you. Did same with all three kids.

Got given a denim jacket as a present for a 3 month old .......WTF?!

bigpantspam · 04/07/2010 17:22

I love babys in gros and rompers. My dd will be 4 months tomorrow and she is mostly in gros or rompers, with how hot it has been she has been in just her nappy or a vest.

My brothers gf bought her this outfit for newborn, it wasn't very soft and I have to admit to only putting her in it to take her photo and she just looked so uncomfortable

OTTMummA · 04/07/2010 17:32

TBH it never occured to me to dress up DS unless we went to a special occasion, and only started wearing clothes at around 9 months as it was getting colder.
He didn't wear shoes until gone 15 months either.
Ive seen pretty little outfits for 0-3 etc, but i can't imagine its very comfortable for them.

diamondsandtiaras · 04/07/2010 17:33

YANB at all U. DD2 is 5 months and in babygrows most of the time. I sometimes put her in soft leggings and a soft top. She still spend so much of her time asleep that I want her to be comfortable rather than a fashion victim!

nancydrewrocks · 04/07/2010 17:36

YANBU
Babies look so cute and cuddly in babygrows and a bit stuffed sausage like in mini outfits before they can really move around.

bigpantspam · 04/07/2010 17:38

Nancy that's exactly what they look like!!!

I don't understand shoes either until they are walking...

humptyismarriedtoanumpty · 04/07/2010 18:05

kreecher here is what i'm talking about in case you change your mind and want one!!!

Just to shake things up - YABU! Not really cos it doesn't matter at all about them looking goo, however it is important for babies to have bare feet regularly to help them learn to crawl etc (increased sensory awareness etc). - So undo the bottom of the babygros every so often!

ElementOfFreedom · 04/07/2010 18:12

good*

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/07/2010 18:14

Humpty, that is fucking awful. apologies to anybody who has one (or two) but really.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 04/07/2010 18:16

People can be really daft about clothes for small babies.

DS was in babygros all the time for about 3 months, then it got pretty hot so he was in vests, with maybe some baby leggings over them if it got chilly. I love the sight of a baby in a babygro and cardi over the top! And built-in feet are so much more practical than socks. I think we may have put him in the odd pair of shorty dungarees over a vest that summer, but mostly he was in a vest. I look at jeans for newborns in shops and shudder. So tight and inflexible.

YANBU. I also didn't like the idea of bulky waistbands on a baby who could only lie on his back. Never got the babygros that buttoned up on the back, though. Ds was in babygros until at least 6 months. If I have a dd this time, she'll also be in babygros until 6 months (probably blue as well, that'll get people!)
