To think that people who HAVE to drive in bare feet are a bit odd?

Why? They didn't learn or pass their test in bare feet did they?

I don't really care what other people do, to be honest, but I went on a trip with some colleagues yesterday, and the woman driving made such a bloody fuss about taking her shoes off 'ooh I sinply can't drive with shoes on, I have to have bare feet to feel the pedals with'

Just made her look daft.

Thanks Poledra I am most definitely northern.
What else would you call a plaster cast if not a pot?

I call it a stookie (am Scottish) but Northern English DH calls it a pot. Dunno what these Southerners call it

Where does stookie come from? I see why we would call them pots as they do knd of feel like pot

Poledra · 02/07/2010 11:58

D'you know, I'm unintentionally offending people all over the place this morning! Time to go do some work, methinks.

Most humble, grovelling apologies, Fio.

(Where you from then, BTW?)

oh crying laughing at some of TheChicOfIt's youtube link.
That woman filling up the BMW at the garage!!

I don't know how people can drive safely in barefeet - unless they've got really, really hard skin.

Debs75 · 02/07/2010 12:11

Maybe pot is a Yorkshire thing then

Kaloki · 02/07/2010 12:16

I cannot drive in high heels, so keep flats in the car. Though I have been known to drive bare foot when I'd forgotten my flats.

I get laughed at a fair bit for having to take my high heels off every time I drive. However it is really dangerous to drive with size 3 feet in 5 inch heels.

Songbiirdheartsfootball · 02/07/2010 12:37

lol paisley, the pedals are not made out of rock or with jagged spikes sticking out just a bit of plastic. the skin on my feet are pretty soft actually made so with daily foot routine

WorkingMotherNStudent · 02/07/2010 12:43

if you have an accident and you are driving bare foot then your insurance becomes invalid, i know this from first hand experience!!! its not worth it..

littleducks · 02/07/2010 13:05

really? better not tell dh, he wont let me if drive bare foot anymore if he finds out about insurance

I often drive bare foot if i have thick flip flops that stick or heels, i tend to slip them off while sitting in drivers seat and tuck shoes under seat so they cant slide under the brake pedal, i then slip them back on at petrol staion etc. nobody ever notices

GetOrfMoiLand · 02/07/2010 13:21

lolol I am roaring with laughter at Debs's pot. I thought she must have posted from an iphone or something and pot was a predictive text mistake.

POT! I have never heard it called that.

Lol also 'what do you call a plaster cast if not a pot'

'a plaster cast, debs'

Thanks you lot you have really made me larf.

ooooh workingmother really? Might have to get suitable shoes then I was rather liking driving bare foot

EricNorthmansmistress · 02/07/2010 14:33

I'll tell ya how it happens - when I was pregnant I only ever wore flip flops due to my feet expanding to the size of boats and also hot feet being intolerable. It's really impossibly to drive in flipflops as they flip and flop around so I got in the habit of driving barefoot. I now prefer it. Of course I can drive with shoes on, (apart from flip flops) even heels, but I prefer not to.

When I was learning I had a pair of driving shoes, which were soft ballet flats so I could feel the pedals.

TheChicOfIt · 02/07/2010 16:46

Am I the only one who can actually drive in flip flops?

I always do and have never had a problem.

I know a lot of people who refuse to drive on motorways or in London, McQueen.

I agree with you.

I would rather drive barefoot than in flipflops and wedges.
I am very competent and confident driver
