If they get pregnant before they are 30 they go to hell?

OP posts:
BelleDameSansMerci · 30/06/2010 23:20

LOL... Possibly, a teeny, weeny bit U? Would you consider a reduction to 28?

LynetteScavo · 30/06/2010 23:22

I thought it was 23.....

booyhoo · 30/06/2010 23:23

it was 30 when i was growing up...no wait....30 for a boyfriend, 35 for a baby.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 30/06/2010 23:23

I'm such an ancient mum I quite want my daughters to be teenage mums or I'll be about 100 when grandkids come around.

So yes YABU.

thesunshinesbrightly · 30/06/2010 23:24

So do i now tell them the devil phoned me/texted me and reduced the age?

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 30/06/2010 23:24

maybe not hell, but i have told my teenage dd's that they will NOT be living here!!

Vallhala · 30/06/2010 23:24

Nope.

But I must admit that having had DD1 at 30 and DD2 19 months later, although I had a great time enjoying my freedom and youth, I do now feel terribly old and a little envious of other teenaged DCs mums who had their babes earlier on and will be footloose and fancy free by the time they are my age.

Then again, when I was 20, a perfect size 8-10 and partying all night, they were doing night feeds and changing nappies.

Wondering if this is how you fear they might feel, or is it that you don't want to be a very young granny, Sun?

piprabbit · 30/06/2010 23:26

I'm hoping that DD has children by the time she is mid-twenties, so I get to by granny before I hit 60.

30 does sounds a tiny bit U.

thesunshinesbrightly · 30/06/2010 23:26

LynetteScavo - Age has now gone up but now i'm getting mixed messages 28 or 30???
I'm thinking NEVER but think that is AIBU.

OP posts:
thesunshinesbrightly · 30/06/2010 23:26

I mean it is unreasonable

OP posts:
thesunshinesbrightly · 30/06/2010 23:32

Vallhala - To be honest, yes i don't want to be a nan, personally.

I was young and missed out on alot and do not want the same for my children hence my nutty explantion of why they should not have children until they are 30 thought that might be affective but not sure if i am being a little dramatic.

OP posts:
Firawla · 30/06/2010 23:51

yabvu 30 is quite old for a baby, why on earth would you tell your dc such ridiculous things &
what exactly is your reason for such weird behaviour, telling them this?

Firawla · 30/06/2010 23:52

oh sorry i see you just said your reason but do you not think that is cruel to say to your children its like you are saying "i had you too young and i regret it"
how old were you anyway?
and maybe your dc will be more mature than you, able to cope with children @ a young age without feeling that way

thesunshinesbrightly · 30/06/2010 23:53

Firawla - read above.

Also 30 is not old

OP posts:
Firawla · 30/06/2010 23:55

not extremely old but for the age to have a 1st baby it is quite old, okay if people chose that for themselves then up to them and i know many people these days have their first 30 or even 40 but still technically it is quite old for having a first baby

thesunshinesbrightly · 30/06/2010 23:56

Firawla - It has nothing to do with not being able to cope. My children were not a mistake and they know that and they are loved.

I was 17 when i had my first one.

OP posts:
Firawla · 30/06/2010 23:58

then why not just let them make their own decisions

thesunshinesbrightly · 30/06/2010 23:59

Infact don't mean to blow my own trumpet but i think i coped reasonably well, i would just like my children to married first and have money behind them before they think about children and i think 30 is a reasonable age.

OP posts:
thesunshinesbrightly · 01/07/2010 00:02

Firawla - I am not going to lock them away just trying to guide them perhaps telling them about the devil is not meant in a evil way more of a little joke but to be warned i will not be happy.

But i do know it is my children's choice, i'm really not a nasty mother.honest.

OP posts:
Firawla · 01/07/2010 00:11

but you know people can get married at 18, if that is your issue.. (well at 16 but i doubt it sounds like you would be giving the parental consent for that?!)

i got married at 18, im 23 i have two kids so far, i feel we are stable & nor do i feel i missed out on anything,so i find it irritating to hear people going on about oh you should be 30+, its irresponsible to have children young etc

if they do have them younger its not the end of the world. okay give your opinion but then if they have them @ 17 or 18 and instead of suporting them you come across all "im not happy with this" how on earth would it help??

some people just prefer to have dc straight away rather than waste 10 years til they get to 30, if they had been ready @ 20 for example..

i know your not nasty but i think its misguided thats all

thesunshinesbrightly · 01/07/2010 00:22

Not misguided at all, when i have lived it.
You got married at 18 Not my choice and i certainly will not be guiding them that way.

Waste 10 year's?? what by buying a house getting money behind them finding the right woman/man. Such a waste eh

Perhaps if it is so irritating to hear you should not be reading the thread.

YAB a bit U

Fine to advise your DC that it is probably better to be financially stable and married or in longterm relationship before having children but suggesting an actual age limit seems OTT (although yes I know you are kind of joking!!)

booyhoo · 01/07/2010 03:00

thesun, my parents married at 21 and had ten wonderful years together, building a home and travelling before they had me. as a child i could never understand it but now as a parent since the age of 19 i see why they did that. they knew who they were before they took on the great task of trying to teach a child how to be. i am still learning who i am and i am doing it infront of my children, if i make mistakes they bear the brunt of them too. i understand completely what you mean.

thumbwitch · 01/07/2010 03:09

I think YABU a bit U, to be fair - if they don't believe in hell, it's not going to work too well, is it? Plus they might say "well Mum you did it - so does that mean you're going to hell?"

How old are your DC, btw? I'm thinking under 10 at this point...

diamondsandtiaras · 01/07/2010 07:23

oh crap. i had my first at 27. straight to the inferno for me then!
