to go out to lunch tomorrow while off sick from work?

Am off on planned sick tomorrow - I had IV sedation today and you are not allowed to work or drive for 24 hours afterwards. My manager had a letter confirming this.

I want to go out for lunch tomorrow. I feel fine, I am just not allowed to go to work, would be just round the corner and a sandwich/coke type meal not a boozy three course meal.

Bad? Or ok given the circumstances?

Go with a friend who will be there to support you if you come over all funny. That way you can be out but still seen as being in need of care.

Oh it is with a friend (who is a nurse actually) and like I say its walking distance from my house.

Take a bath chair and some smelling salts and you will be fine.

Fine fine fine, I'm on long term sick and I eat all the time!

proudfoot · 30/06/2010 21:55

If you're pretty sure that noone from work will see you and query it then fine - if they might spot you then not worth the hassle IMO.

"You saw me at a restaurant yesterday boss? Well, yes, I'd just popped out to get the baby some Calpol and I came over all peculiar. If I hadn't sat down and had a bite to eat I'd have passed out!".

I read the title and was about to get all self righteous and say "no no no, too ill to work then too ill to lunch out"

But now I've read the circumstances it sounds fine to me. Especially as you are lunching with a nurse.

PickUpYourPants · 30/06/2010 22:13

Completely fine, you have to take the time off. But if you feel fine you don't have to sit in your bed.
DD had a general yesterday and would have been fine to go in today but stayed home as advised. But went to Tesco with her Dad.

maktaitai · 30/06/2010 22:14

TBH I would host the lunch at home. Sorry.

blueshoes · 30/06/2010 22:37

Fine.

You are not saying you are sick. You are just not allowed to work. What you are doing is entirely consistent with the doctor's letter.

agree with blueshoes. I have had plenty of operations over the years for minor things on my wrists and although i can not drive i still go out. After-all i am not physically sick or infectious - i am just not "fit" for work.
