I think transvestites are strange as well I'm afraid. As a feminist I find they have a warped idea of what being a woman and dressing as a woman means. Outside work I'm often dressed in casual trousers from outdoor shops (Northface, Rab etc) or sporting gear and husband and myself wear similar clothes. If husband dressed in my clothes he wouldn't look much different to how he looks now.
Tranvestites usually want skirts, hosiery and makeup. Why? How does putting on all that guff make you feel better? I don't get transexuals either, I don't see why they can't just be effeminate homosexuals. M-F transexuals who then decide they want to be lesbians are stranger still.
It does seem to involve alot of stereotyped thinking of male and female dress and roles that I don't subscribe to.

Actually, both of the trans women I met the other day were dressed fairly casually, in trousers and smart but unobtrusive tops. No high heels, nothing garish, just the same sort of clothes that women.their ages would wear (mid 40s & 60). The way they described it was that it's really difficult being a man who wants to be a woman without looking like a man dressed as,a woman, especially when you aren't allowed into the changing rooms to see what fits...

Scuse poor punctuation: on phone and taken my glasses off for today!

PS why not actually contact an organisation or talk to some trans people and ask these questions? I think some people would be happy to discuss these issues with you as part of what they ate tying to do is to confront prejudice and break down barriers to communication. Google Rikki Arundel or Gendershift. I had never met and talked to a trans person before but they are just people like everyone else.
