To find this a bit worrying

DS went for his swimming lesson after school today and during the lesson another kid threw up at the side of the pool. One of the pool attendants then spent about 20 minutes scooping water out of the pool over the pile of sick so it could wash down the drainage grates. Surely this would then flow back into the pool through the filter system, where all the other kids were still swimming. I don't know whether to complain to whoever manages the pool about the obvious health risks. DP says I'm over-reacting.

ewww...

I'd not go there again!

OTTMummA · 28/06/2010 19:47

that is more than gross, i wouldn't of been able to stop myself questioning the attendants cleaning method, < cue lots of, WTF R U DOING sort of stuff >

SAD31 · 28/06/2010 19:48

I thought they were supposed to close the pool. My DS1 did it once and they had to shut the pool

PeedOffWithNits · 28/06/2010 19:48

well what do you think they do when someone pukes IN the pool?

they just scoop out the lumps

same for turds

they cannot keep emptying, scrubbing clean, refilling all day long!

THATS WHAT CHLORINE IS FOR!!

saintlydamemrsturnip · 28/06/2010 19:49

I suppose they'll say the chlorine will take care of anything but that is completely boak.

thisisyesterday · 28/06/2010 19:50

omg!!! that's disgusting

i would definitely complain and i would NOT be going back

thisisyesterday · 28/06/2010 19:51

yep our local pool has to be shut if anyone pukes/poos in it

scurryfunge · 28/06/2010 19:51

The chlorine will kill off any germs and the filter will take care of any debris.

OopsDoneItAgain · 28/06/2010 19:54

They do empty my local (childrens) pool if someone has pooed in it, not sure about sick. I have seen mums swish sick away as if that makes the water all lovely again! Definitely best not to think too much about swimming pool water contents I find!

NorkyButNice · 28/06/2010 19:55

The pool will be shut while they fish out any chunks, but they certainly won't empty the water, clean the pool and refill it each time!

PeedOffWithNits · 28/06/2010 19:57

all ye who are horrified - how will you ever swim again not knowing WHAT has gone on before you got in the water......! LOL

ninah · 28/06/2010 19:58

I was about to go in a local pool when someone threw up
the pool attendant told us (don't think she was supposed to) and gave us the choice to go in or not
someone was scooping out the chunks with a net
it was a WAVE pool ...
made my excuses, but the receptionist looked taken aback like I was being a bit picky and 'southern' lol
lots of blokes in short frolicking in there when I left

LittleNicci · 28/06/2010 19:59

I didn't think that they would empty the pool as the kid wasn't actually sick in the pool, but on the side. I just thought they should have cleaned it up properly, that's all.

OP posts:
ninah · 28/06/2010 19:59

oh, at no point was the pool actually shut!

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 28/06/2010 19:59

Do none of you swim in the sea? Or rivers/lakes?

LittleNicci · 28/06/2010 20:00

I think I will complain anyway

OP posts:
ninah · 28/06/2010 20:04

a bit of sick is more likely to disperse in the sea

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 28/06/2010 20:06

But there's rather a lot more than just 'a bit of sick' in the sea!

Seriously, whatever goes in a swimming pool, it's still way, way cleaner than the sea, which has shit from all the millions of animals in it, not to mention from all the humans whose sewage is dispersed into it. Dead things - the sea is really gross, when you think about it, but you dont' think about it, do you? You just swim in it and very, very rarely, people get ill.

ninah · 28/06/2010 20:11

I suppose
in a v v diluted way
in a small wave pool carrot chunks are a bit too up close and personal for me
I don't doubt my immune system would support it more a matter of aesthetics really

Ladyanonymous · 28/06/2010 20:15

Our pool is closed if someone shits/pukes in the pool - the kids are always missing lessons.

slushy06 · 28/06/2010 20:18

I would say YANBU someone poohed in our pool and it was closed for months because the water was infected and people were getting ill after going in there.

PeedOffWithNits · 28/06/2010 20:19

really, slushy ?? (great name for this thread BTW )

they need to use more chlorine!!

PeedOffWithNits · 28/06/2010 20:20

Oh, and I would have thought you are far more likely to catch something from the loos or even from the showers, than from the pool water - unless you were drinking it by the bucketful

lal123 · 28/06/2010 20:22

Take it none of you are worried about all that wee in the pool? Or is it just lumpy stuff you object to?
