to think pubic hair isn't unhygienic

I am a fan of waxing because I like it, feels clean and soft. But I only started this a couple of years ago, before it was just about removing what could be seen from the swimming suit.

Had coffee with old mate today, hadn't seen her for years, starts bitching about her SIL, obviously had a lot to vent about. SIL is in her forties and single, hardly a crime, still my friend thinks it's because she won't wax!!!!!!

Didn't say ANYTHING, as I didn't care and had to go back to work, but I can't get over the fact that she said: even if she doesn't do it in order to get some, she should at least wax for hygiene reasons".

AIBU to think that there's absolutely nothing unhygienic about leaving bodily hair where it is? And that this whole "hygiene" thing is brainwashing from waxing/shaving/lasering/whatever companies?

I have never in my whole life ever met a man who commented on anything in that dept, I think most blokes are so thrilled to be getting some that the state of the pubes of the other party is the last thing on theit mind!

I have met more than a couple of blokes who said that they found total hair removal creepy/weird/horrible etc.

I think this idea that men expect and prefer women to be hairless is a myth put about by ads mags/porno people/the waxing industry.

ImSoNotTelling · 24/06/2010 20:33

Oh and YANBU of course its not unhygienic.

lazarusb · 24/06/2010 21:05

There is lots of bacteria living in your eyelashes. Should we be pulling them out too? Pubic hair is there for a reason. I would definitely not go for the hairless look, I'm not eight ffs.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 24/06/2010 21:31

lazarusb - not only bacteria - we all have eyelash mites!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 24/06/2010 21:34

I agree with Malificence

And I have enough hassle with removing other bits of body hair - would not want the pain/hassle/itchiness/ingrowing hairs.

My muff stays

mumeeee · 24/06/2010 21:37

YANBU and I agree with southeastastra

Squitten · 24/06/2010 21:39

I'm a natural gal too for the most part. I can't understand how women can stand to have the hair ripped out of their legs and armpits as it is, let alone that kind of sensitive area! The very thought makes me squirm...

FWIW, DH has never commented on what I chose to do in that area and reckons that as long as they're getting their leg over, most blokes couldn't care less either

bibbitybobbityhat · 24/06/2010 21:41

My dh would not be interested in a bald flange, either on me or anyone else. He is old school.

notsohotchic · 24/06/2010 22:05

Yeah, my ex was a regular porn user, when I was with him (and the knackered mother of 3) he whinged about my dislike of waxing and disinterest in 'sexy' underwear... I did say EX. Jeez. What a catch he was.

ThatVikRinA22 · 24/06/2010 22:22

i like to be neatly coiffured, but if you wax or shave, ive found it always looks really awful as it starts to come back and prickly!

how do you wax without ingrowing hairs?

ThatVikRinA22 · 24/06/2010 22:23

i need to clarify i would never wax or shave it all off!

just knicker line....

PfftTheMagicDragon · 24/06/2010 22:25

vicar - you exfoliate and eventually it stops happening. Pain in the arse though,.

ThatVikRinA22 · 24/06/2010 22:27

pain in the arse

literally!

lemonysweet · 24/06/2010 22:35

MUFF POWER.

on the other hand, if DH gets bored in the bath [once he's finished that male thing of checking all his bits are still there]
he sometimes has a 'tidy up' with my razor.
[once, when he was drunk, he shaved my first initial into it with a beard trimmer someone had got him for christmas]

and if he's ever a bit...stubbly, its uncomfortable for me if we [ahem] because its like shagging a cactus.

MorrisZapp · 24/06/2010 22:55

I don't wax my bits as I find it too painful, but I must say I don't understand why mother nature in her wisdom gave us wiry hair in the parts of our body that sweat and smell the most - wtf?

In this weather, I'm showering twice a day and having a big old wig on the hottest, dampest part of my body really doesn't strike me as intelligent design. In fact I think it's a big bogging really.

Thanks v much mother nature, not.

piratecat · 24/06/2010 23:08

lol @ 'big old wig'!!!!!!!!!!!

Jenbot · 24/06/2010 23:40

I like to dye my tubes for different public holidays. I have a St George's flag down there at the moment. I only wax to get different seasonal shapes- Easter egg, bucket and spade, pumpkin, holly leaf, you know.

Jenbot · 24/06/2010 23:41

Oops, pubic hair, not tubes.

haribomum · 24/06/2010 23:53

yanbu

CoinOperatedGirl · 25/06/2010 00:44

I don't see the whole appeal of the bare look. I worked on a maternity ward and honestly when washing ladies (after a c-section etc) would get a bit of a shock when faced with a big hairless minge . Dunno why just used to freak me out. After seeing many fanjos, most are normal (upside down triangle of reasonable hair).

I did shave mine, just to see, but didn't see the point.

Surely if hair grows there naturally it serves a purpose, evolution and all that.

I hate dropping my kecks for doctors, nevermind beauty erm proffesionals, so can never envisage having any kind of waxing.

Kaloki · 25/06/2010 00:49

I don't trust the whole nature knows best thing. After all, period pains anyone? Sod nature

CoinOperatedGirl · 25/06/2010 00:56

Yeah but hair does tend to grow around mucous membranes to trap bacteria etc (well apart from the mouth). It's like the whole feminine hygiene industry, erm what? Do you have blokes popping out in their lunch hour to but a bit of cockfresh? Erm no, tis all bollocks.

CoinOperatedGirl · 25/06/2010 00:57

shinysparkles · 25/06/2010 07:38

I think there's definitely a happy medium between hairless and wild unruly bush, both equally yuck!

cory · 25/06/2010 07:41

Me, I am in no hurry to look like an octogenarian down below.
