to think pubic hair isn't unhygienic

I am a fan of waxing because I like it, feels clean and soft. But I only started this a couple of years ago, before it was just about removing what could be seen from the swimming suit.

Had coffee with old mate today, hadn't seen her for years, starts bitching about her SIL, obviously had a lot to vent about. SIL is in her forties and single, hardly a crime, still my friend thinks it's because she won't wax!!!!!!

Didn't say ANYTHING, as I didn't care and had to go back to work, but I can't get over the fact that she said: even if she doesn't do it in order to get some, she should at least wax for hygiene reasons".

AIBU to think that there's absolutely nothing unhygienic about leaving bodily hair where it is? And that this whole "hygiene" thing is brainwashing from waxing/shaving/lasering/whatever companies?

You're allowed to think it's gross. You must be an idiot to think it's unhygienic IMO

I feel so old. I had no idea it was the done thing for people my age (40) to wax anything other than stragglers. I hope I never have need to "date" again as I fear I may be an outcast.

bibbitybobbityhat · 24/06/2010 18:47

I think I'd be happy to go without tbh if that was the price I had to pay. Am not a conformist, thanks all the same.

Makes me sad that dd will probably get involved in all that rigmarole within the next 10 years or so .

secunda · 24/06/2010 18:49

naked fanjos don't even look nice. A bit of camouflage is necessary I think

bintofbohemia · 24/06/2010 18:52

I can't imagine wanting to be with a man who had a strong preference towards ripping it all off.

isthatporridgeinyourhair · 24/06/2010 18:53

Absolutely secunda. Could we start a splinter group - Militant Muffs maybe?

Bonsoir - do the French go for complete deforestation then?

CheerfulYank · 24/06/2010 19:00

I'm a "keep it in your knickers" kind of girl too..I think all off it sort of odd. It look prepubescent or something.

eclipse · 24/06/2010 19:23

I once shaved all but a landing strip and DH didn't even notice, despite plenty of naked action. Glad I didn't bother facing the assumed agony of waxing.

Firawla · 24/06/2010 19:28

i do think its better / cleaner 2 remove it but i second the question of why on earth does this person know so much about her sil's habits regarding this and why does she think this would be a good topic over coffee to start bitching about someone whether they wax or not?! it is very strange!!

pigsinmud · 24/06/2010 19:31

Bloody he'll how can anyone wax round there. I can't even wax my legs.

slushy06 · 24/06/2010 19:35

It most certainly does not make it less attractive to men, in fact I have never shaved and have been complimented on going natural by quite a few partners . I looked at the m a bit and they said it makes intercourse feel nicer because it is softer

HerBeatitude · 24/06/2010 19:38

So do all those people who think it's cleaner to not have pubic hair, insist their DP's also wax / shave off their pubic hair?

Or is it only women who are made dirty by the presence of pubic hair?

Kaloki · 24/06/2010 19:42

Personally I find it more hygienic to shave it but this is because I have a piercing there, and hair and piercings are a bad combination - especially pubic hair. I tried not shaving for a while and it got caught far too many times. I figured that waxing/shaving was painless in comparison!

HotSprocket · 24/06/2010 19:46

I would have thought waxing was more unhygenic because of the ingrown hairs.
I am a proud member of the full bush club.

lemonysweet · 24/06/2010 19:53

oooh kaloki, did your piercing hurt?

mine gets too itchy if i let it grow too long! im trimmed, shall we say.

people who take the whole lot off and dont leave a patch at the front, im sorry, but it looks like a child's vagina. my DH wouldnt go near me if i ever did that! [and i know, because i just asked him if he'd like me with porno pubes. ]

HerBeatitude · 24/06/2010 19:57

ROFL at porno pubes.

That should be the generally adopted phrase.

Not sure if it just looks like a little girl's vagina - it also looks like a very old woman's one. Did you know that as you get older, you lose your pubic hair? So it's basically about making women look like they are either not ready to reproduce, or have their reproduction days behind them. Interesting that porn has this obsession.

Carbonated · 24/06/2010 20:01

I have so much childbirth damage down there that my pubes are a public service to people of a nervous disposition.

All this anti hair propaganda worries me. Because in ten years time there will be a backlash and we will see hair EVERYWHERE. Merkins and everything.

Malificence · 24/06/2010 20:13

I've said it before (a hundred times), pubic hair makes you more sexy, not less, because it traps the pheremones and aids lubrication.

I like to lick all the hairy parts of DH, including his armpits.

I wonder how many men would like the shaved look if it was associated with old ladies ( apart from the one who like granny porn obviously)?
I also think that men who prefer shaved fanjos are probably regular porn viewers.

harpsichordcarrier · 24/06/2010 20:14

Lol at muff power

cakeywakey · 24/06/2010 20:14

Malificence you've just reminded me that my Grandmother (when drunk) once told me that pubes go grey and eventually fall out. That was a lovely mental image I can tell you

Kaloki · 24/06/2010 20:16

lemonysweet Surprisingly, no. I've had two down there, neither hurt. Though there are other genital piercings that really would.

HerBeatitude · 24/06/2010 20:23

I've always thought that the only advantage of bare pubic areas, is that at least they won't be grey...

Kaloki · 24/06/2010 20:25

Have to add, in this weather, it's nice and cool!
